Last night members of the Lincoln Green Party had the privilege of meeting Esther G**y at Scene.

The talk was as inspirational as it was emotional. Hearing how Esther channelled her grief into campaigns to better the lives of all young people, particularly those impacted by harmful social media algorithms inspired us. Some things to check out are: the Brianna G**y Legacy Project & Phone Free Education.

Esther's campaigns and talks are stark reminders of the importance of regulating social media companies who have made deliberately addictive algorithms which push out and prioritise harmful content to young and vulnerable audiences.

The Green Party calls for “stronger regulation, better digital safety education, and tougher action to hold these platforms and their billionaire owners accountable” - The GPEW Website.

Sign the petition linked in our bio (linktree) to help save Ellis Mill.

Ellis Mill located on Mill Road is over 200 years old and is Lincoln’s only surviving mill but due to its deteriorating condition it has sadly been closed for the past few years. Not wanting to sit back and let its condition worsen, the Ellis Mill Rescue group was formed with the aim of taking control from the country council to raise funds and fix it up themselves.

They started a petition to reject any private sale of the mill and bring the mill back into full working condition again. Since this petition started 3 weeks ago it has gained over 2,300 signatures!

The more people who sign this petition opposing the County council’s plans to “dispose of the mill” the more likely they will be forced into the campaign actions of restoring the mill, preserving our living history in Lincoln. Lincoln Civic Trust has already saved the mill once before, having restored it in the 70s after a major fire, and has put forward plans to save it once again, to run it as a sustainable, community-led asset.

Lincoln Green Party calls upon the council to bring the mill back into good repair and return ownership to the Trust so it can once again be enjoyed by the people of Lincoln.

Another successful morning litter picking, this time in Carholme Ward 💚

We were joined by our lovely Green Councillor Sally Horscroft for Park Ward and our co-coordinator and previous Carholme Candidate Josh Parkinson. Together we were able to fill out 16 bags of litter as well as a wheelbarrow of cans and a shopping bag of bottles.

It is a shame to see so much litter and broken glass in the West Common so close to the horses and where lots of people go for runs and walk their dogs. This is why these community litter picks are still needed and why we run them every month. Thank you to the Lincolnshire Trades Council for organising the Greater Lincolnshire Litter Pick to encourage more people to clean up their communities.

Thank you to everyone who came and we hope to see you all at another pick very soon.

We're once again out in Carholme Ward, this time as part of the Lincoln Trade Council’s Greater Lincolnshire Litter Pick (followed by a later social and BBQ!). Join us on 22nd August (this Saturday) at the Grandstand in the West Common for a 10am start. 🚮

As a local party, we aim to get out and about litter picking at least once per month and Carholme Ward is next on our tour around the city. It's no secret that Carholme is close to our hearts, after all, we had fantastic conversations on the door here back in May and delivered a fantastic result for the Greens.

Community activities like this which are open to members and non-members alike are a fantastic way to come together with a united cause and clean up green spaces and areas which you frequently enjoy.

Come say hello to one of our Co-Coordinators and previous Carholme candidate Josh Parkinson and our new Councillor in Park Ward Sally Horscroft as we get on with cleaning up the common! 💚

We can provide litter picking equipment but you can bring your own too, of course!

Another devastating effect of climate change is the impact it has on our wildlife 💔

One of our members reached out to us today to share that a local wildlife charity is packed full of hedgehogs who have been struggling to find food, water and shelter in this heatwave.

Our valuable ecosystems are at a very real risk of collapse if we don’t take serious action.

While climate change may be a global issue that feels overwhelming, there are a few things that we can do to help our wildlife at home:

💧 Provide a mini watering hole💧

Make sure to use something shallow like a plant pot saucer and throw in some pebbles so the smallest critters can perch for a drink safely

🍽️ Leave out some food for hedgehogs 🍽️

This is a great way to get rid of any spare pet food that your fussy pet has gone off of, just make sure that it is meat based pet food (no fish!)

🪵 Create some shade 🪵

The garden doesn’t need to be too tidy, leave some logs piled up or some broken plant pots on their side to create a sheltered area for wildlife.

Wishing good luck to all A Level students for their results day tomorrow 💚

P.S if you're deciding which university to go to through clearing, be sure to check if they have a Green Party society like the Uni of Lincoln
