On Thursday we attended a fire in woodland by Grayshott that had been started by someone having a barbecue. Just a bit of careful planning can stop this from happening. Wildfires cause damage to the environment , destroy natural habitats for animals & insects & unfortunately they invariably perish as well. Please be careful in this hot weather 🔥

🔥 There’s a greater risk of wildfires during hot and dry weather - help us protect the countryside 👉 https://bit.ly/HIWFRSWildfires

🥪 Leave BBQs at home – pack a picnic instead
🚬 Put out ci******es properly & dispose of them carefully
🌲 Don't start campfires in the countryside

So this weekend, Watch Manager Craig Morgan hangs up his fire gear for the final time as he retires from Liphook Fire Station and Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service after 34 years of service.

Thank you Craig for 34 years of dedication to looking after and protecting the community of Liphook and the surrounding areas and while you are leaving it in good hands, you will be sorely missed.

Enjoy your retirement , which he informs us will be mainly spent with his family at his holiday caravan by the coast , on numerous holiday’s & flying his new toy helicopter!

You will always be welcome at Liphook and we will no doubt see you soon!

So this evening 13M2 , Liphook’s Land Rover is currently on its first call of the year, helping our colleagues at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service with a common fire on Hankley Common near Farnham 🚒🔥

This is a reminder that we all have to be careful how we discard flammable items such as discarded ci******es or having barbecues in open spaces like this.

The damage to the local environment & wildlife can be a great loss that can take many years to recover. Add to that the negative impact on local resources and the toxic smoke that can be breathed in, all in all it is best if these common / grass fires are not started in the first place.

Some of the incidents we attend require us to work at height or in precarious situations.

In order to nullify any risk to us, we are trained in SWAH (Safe Working At Height) systems which consist of ‘Work Restraint’ where the harness we wear is connected to a rope which is then connected to an ‘unquestionably sound’ anchor point, which stops us going over the edge, or ‘Fall Arrest’ which is where if we were to fall the harness effectively catches us.

Last night at Drill Night, we blew the cobwebs off & had a fun but important session practicing some SWAH scenario’s underneath the A3 near Bramshott, in order to maintain our skill set should we be required to use it.

Today everyone at Liphook Fire Station would like to say Happy Mothers Day to all the amazing Mum’s out there , including our very own FF , Amy. 👩🏻‍🚒💐

Without our amazing support network, we wouldn’t be able to respond at such short notice, at all hours , to the incidents we have to attend. So hopefully all the mums can have a lovely day & be treated on hand & foot! 😃

P.S. Sorry Amy, it’s the only pic I could find ! 😬🥴😂
