Live & Later Spoken Word & Poetry Night in Liskeard - Live at Liskeard Library!

Looking for things to do in Liskeard or live poetry in Cornwall? Join us at Liskeard Library for a welcoming evening of spoken word and poetry centred on the theme of Growth.

This event brings together writers, performers and listeners for a night of honest expression. Exploring growing pains, personal change, relationships, and the journey of becoming. Whether you want to perform or simply listen, you’ll be part of a supportive, attentive audience.

🎤 Headliner: D’arcy Shaw
An exciting, emerging spoken word poet performing across the UK. D’arcy’s work focuses on mental health, relationships and lived experience, creating a safe and relatable space through poetry.

Hi folks, we are open but we aren’t air conditioned. It’s currently 28.5 degrees here at 9am. Please make sensible decisions about whether to go out and about in the heat today. Remember that we don’t do fines on books, rhyme will be here next week, and we do have iced lattes and frozen smoothies if you need 10 minutes inside away from the sun!!!

Robin Ince is coming to the library for a talk on Wednesday!

Join us at on Wednesday 24th June at 1.30PM to hear Robin discuss his thoughts, books, writings and ramblings – undoubtedly with one or two tangents alone the way! There’ll be an opportunity to ask your questions – and get your books signed!

A multi award winning comedian, author, broadcaster, bibliomaniac and a populariser of scientific ideas. He is perhaps best known as the co-host and co-creator of the Sony Gold Award winning BBC Radio 4 series The Infinite Monkey Cage with Professor Brian Cox.

Its speak Cornish week! 21st to 28th June. 💛

You can learn Kernewek (Cornish!) in a few ways online today especially using your library membership. We have LOTE4Kids, Transparent Language and a great selection of books in stock in the Liskeard Library.

We've been listening to the Learn Cornish podcast on the BBC recently which is a great way to get introduced to some basic words and phrases.

You'll notice we have all our signposting around the building in English and Kernewek too!

Cornwall Uncharted Book Launch Party

We were so excited to host the launch of Cornwall Uncharted: Mapping Cornwall’s Q***r History of Concealment, Culture and Creativity by Author - Paul Taylor-McCartney published by The History Press.

It was a fantastic night of celebration, featuring live music from Fest Da Lowr and a Q&A with Paul and James Innerdale, hosted by Clare Howdle. We also had the pleasure of welcoming Cornwall Pride and Q***r Kernow who spoke about their important work across the region.

Together, we raised £85 for Cornwall Pride, alongside a fantastic turnout from our local community in support of this beautiful book. You can now find Cornwall Uncharted in bookshops such as West Looe Bookshop and Black Cat Books Ltd as well as in your local library!

Our Impact 💥

Over the last few months we have had some fantastic numbers of people using our services and enjoying our programme of events. On top of this we have 17 incredible volunteers and a brand new Barclays banking hub!

Thanks so much for using the library, engaging with our activities and supporting us by buying a coffee or a cake from our cafe. Believe us when we say every single purchase helps keep this wonderful building open for our local community.
