❤️ St Richard’s or Worthing hospital will be getting a new community mental health centre, offering walk-in support without a referral and without a months-long wait.

❤️ West Sussex will also be getting a dedicated mental health emergency department giving people in crisis specialist care in a place designed for them.

Our government is delivering on its promises to support local people with mental health problems.

Littlehampton’s Sandcastle Competition to return Thurs 6 August

Councillor Freddie Tandy, chair of the community resources committee, said: “The seafront is one of the town’s most valuable treasures, with East Beach serving as an ideal spot for a day out full of seaside activities.

"This event consistently attracts a large crowd and it’s great to see so many families coming down to participate in our annual sandcastle competition.

"We love seeing the imagination on display and all the different things that people create!”

Littlehampton’s annual Sandcastle Competition returns next month.

It's fantastic to see more families benefiting from West Sussex's Best Start Family Hubs.

Attendance has soared, with visits more than doubling at the Adur and Worthing hubs in early 2026, while Crawley recorded a remarkable 195% increase compared with the previous year.

These hubs provide vital support for families from pregnancy through to age 19 (25 for young people with SEND), offering Stay & Play sessions, SEND support, sensory activities, specialist services and welcoming spaces where families can connect.

This is part of Labour's Best Start in Life strategy, backed by over £900 million to bring services together, support parents, and give every child the best possible start in life.

Did you know the Labour Government is investing £1.14 billion in our region? The Sussex and Brighton Strategic Authority has been allocated the funding for long-term investment over the next 30 years.

The devolution deal recently unlocked initial £117 million to be spent “tackling the most persistent issues across Sussex and generating opportunities for everyone who lives here”.

In time, these new powers and funding will be overseen by a directly elected regional mayor, giving our area a stronger voice and greater control over the decisions that shape our future.

This is a significant step towards bringing investment, opportunity and decision-making closer to the communities of Sussex and Brighton.

Labour is investing in walking and cycling to create safer routes, improve public health, reduce congestion, cut carbon emissions, and boost local economies.

The Government has set an ambitious target for 55% of short journeys in towns and cities to be walked or cycled by 2035, backed by a record £4.5 billion investment over the next five years to deliver new walking and cycling routes, safer crossings, and better connections to schools, high streets, and local services.
