🚨 DAY 4 – SPACE RISK & PLANETARY DEFENCE 🚨

☄️ Have you ever wondered how we know whether an asteroid is heading towards Earth?

Space-related risks may feel far removed from everyday life, but scientists and governments around the world continually monitor Near Earth Objects such as asteroids and comets.

Although the likelihood of a significant asteroid impact is low, monitoring, science and international collaboration help us understand and manage these risks.

Preparedness isn't only about the risks we can see.

Key Messages
• Space risks exist even though they are less visible in everyday life.
• Near Earth Objects are actively monitored internationally.
• Science and early-warning systems play an important role in safety.
• International collaboration helps manage global risks.
• Anyone can engage with space awareness and citizen science.

✅ Today's Challenge
Explore the UK Government's National Space Strategy.
Discover:
• How the UK is involved in space and resilience.
• How Near Earth Objects are monitored.
• How scientists assess potential risks.
• Why international cooperation is important for planetary defence.
Look up—you might discover something new!

🚨 DAY 3 – CYBER SAFETY 🚨

🔐 How secure is your digital life?

We use email, social media, online banking and shopping every day—but cybercrime and fraud are now some of the most common threats people face.

The good news? Small changes can make a big difference.

Strong passwords, two-factor authentication and keeping your devices updated can help protect your money, identity and personal information.

Key Messages
• Cybercrime is common, so awareness is your first line of defence.
• Use strong, unique passwords for different accounts.
• Enable two-factor authentication wherever possible.
• Keep devices and software updated.
• Be cautious of suspicious links and unexpected attachments.
• Know how to report fraud or suspicious online activity.

✅ Today's Challenge
Check your passwords and improve your online security.
Take a few minutes to:
• Check whether your passwords are strong and unique.
• Change weak or reused passwords.
• Turn on two-factor authentication wherever possible.
• Make sure your phone, computer and apps are up to date.
And remember—think before clicking unexpected links or attachments.

As summer draws to a close, construction teams at the Alexandra Arts Centre have been making the most of the longer days - delivering a busy and productive period of activity across virtually every part of the building.

Despite the heat, progress has been anything but slow, with work advancing simultaneously on the exterior, the main auditorium, backstage areas, studios, and building services, marking a significant step forward as the project moves into its autumn phase.

The master of the hover - if you've ever spotted a bird seemingly suspended in mid-air above a roadside verge, grassland or open field, chances are you've seen a kestrel.

Often known as the "windhover", this remarkable bird of prey is one of the UK's most recognisable raptors, famous for its ability to hover almost motionless while searching for prey below.
