🚫 BBQs are NOT permitted on any beaches in Arun 🚫
Most locals already know the rules around BBQs on our beaches – and we really appreciate your help in sticking to them.

Unfortunately, BBQs have caused several serious fires in recent years, putting people at risk and damaging our beautiful coastline. That’s why they’re not allowed on the beach.

🔥 Good news! There are safe, designated BBQ spots near our beaches where you can still enjoy cooking outdoors:

* Littlehampton – West Green activity area (near the water play area)
* Ferring – Goring Gap
* Felpham – green space next to the beach

♻️ If you’re using a public BBQ area, please remember:

* make sure your BBQ is fully extinguished and completely cold before disposing of it
* do not put BBQs into regular litter bins – they can cause fires
* clear up after yourself – bin your rubbish or take it home

🏡 Planning a BBQ at home? keep it safe:

* keep BBQs well away from fences, sheds and anything flammable
* never leave a BBQ unattended
* keep children and pets at a safe distance
* always ensure coals are fully extinguished and cool before disposal

🔥 Remember: Fires can start quickly, spread fast, and cause serious harm to people, wildlife and property.
🌞 Enjoy the sunshine, have fun—but remember we can all do our part to keep our beaches safe for everyone.

Biffa’s collection crews are struggling in the extreme heat, and temperatures are forecast to be equally as challenging tomorrow. As a result, temporary changes are being made to help protect crews while maintaining essential waste services.

- collections will start from 5am – please leave bins and caddies out the night before
- additional staff will be supporting collection rounds
- garden waste collections will be suspended for one day
- affected residents can present extra garden waste at their next scheduled collection. Extra resources will be in place to support the next collection service

We appreciate this may cause some inconvenience and we thank residents for their understanding as crews work in very tough conditions.

Relining and maintenance work will take place in Manor House car park on Tuesday,
30 June.

To facilitate the work, a number of parking bays will be temporarily closed. While the majority of the car park will remain open, there will be reduced parking availability, with contractors will be operating on site.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time and take care while using the car park during this period. Alternative parking is available in Anchor Springs and St Martins car parks.

We aim to complete the work and reopen the bays within the car park as quickly as possible, subject to weather and operational conditions.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Biffa crews have been making really good progress collecting unwanted bins and are on track to reach all roads across the district by next Tuesday (30 June).

There are just a few remaining areas to cover, so if yours hasn’t been collected yet, they should be with you very soon.

If you still have an unwanted bin, please make sure it’s clearly visible and either turned upside down or has a clear note on it so crews know to take it.

Thanks for bearing with us while this work is carried out – we really appreciate your patience.

Update on the SWEP activation – due to extreme heat (23 June 2026)

Due to the red heat-health alert' (HHA) over the next few days, extra support is being put in place for people sleeping rough.

Access to the United Reform Church on Arundel Road in Littlehampton (the front entrance to the Turning Tides Hub) has now been secured. Rough sleepers will be able to visit for shade and a cold drink at the following times:

Today - until 4pm
Tomorrow - 11am to 4pm
25 June - 11am to 4pm

In addition:

• Turning Tides Hub, Littlehampton, will be extending their opening hours on Friday from 9am to 4pm, supported by our outreach team
• Stonepillow, Glenlogie House, Clarence Road, Bognor Regis will be extending their opening hours each day, allowing access for clients until 4pm

Cold water and soft drinks will be available at these locations.
