It’s National Volunteers’ Week! 💙

This week, we are celebrating the incredible dedication and community spirit of the volunteers who support my office and Merseyside Police by helping to build safer, stronger communities across our region.

Last night, Deputy PCC Jeanie Bell attended our Valuing Volunteers event, recognising the vital contribution volunteers make across our organisation.

👏 Our Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) carried out 183 unannounced visits across custody suites in 2025–26—spending over 157 hours ensuring detainees are treated fairly, with dignity, and held in safe conditions.

🐶 Our Animal Welfare Volunteers conducted regular visits to the mounted and kennel sections—completing 191 welfare checks on police dogs and horses to ensure the highest standards of care.

These volunteers are a priceless asset.

And it doesn’t stop there—our policing family is strengthened by:
👮 Special Constables
🎓 Cadets
🤝 Police Support Volunteers
👧 Mini Police across Merseyside

We are so fortunate to have such a strong network of volunteers who go above and beyond every day.

Thank you for everything you do. You are making a real difference. 💙

presents a great opportunity to highlight the relentless work Merseyside Police are doing to tackle knife crime.

✅ These results show a clear commitment to removing dangerous weapons, targeting offenders, whilst educating some of our most vulnerable across our communities.

🙏 A huge thank you to all our officers and staff who work tirelessly to keep people safe, taking knives off our streets and engaging with young people.

❌ There is never a valid reason to carry a knife. Every weapon removed is a life potentially saved.

👌 We remain committed to doing everything we can—through enforcement, education and prevention—to rid knives from our communities for good.

🌊Empowering young people to set sail towards a brighter future ⚓

This week, it was fantastic to see the impact of our Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES) in action, as my team joined young people from Conquer Life on board the Pride of Sefton with The Florrie 🛥️

This inspiring initiative is giving young people the opportunity to learn water safety, sailing skills and teamwork, while also enjoying unforgettable days out on the water. These experiences build confidence, develop life skills and create memories that stay with them for a lifetime.

Both organisations benefited from the YES Fund last year, and it’s clear the investment has made a real difference, helping them provide even more positive, life-affirming opportunities for the young people they support.

Over the past two years, the YES Fund has demonstrated the real power of early intervention. Thousands of young people across Merseyside have taken part in activities ranging from sport and arts to mentoring, digital skills and wellbeing support—delivered by dedicated grassroots organisations that truly understand their communities.

By creating safe spaces and positive pathways, these projects are helping young people build brighter futures and reducing the risk of them being drawn into harmful situations.

We’ll shortly be announcing this year’s successful bids, and I cannot wait to see more innovative projects come to life thanks to this vital fund.

With continued investment, we can go even further in supporting young people and building safer, stronger communities across Merseyside 👌

😇 I’m thrilled to see Merseyside officers recognised on a national stage for this pioneering work to protect women and girls. Operation Halo is a powerful example of what can be achieved when police, partners and businesses come together with a shared determination to make our night-time economy safer for all.

Frank, Neil and Paul, along with everyone involved, have shown real leadership, innovation and commitment to tackling violence against women and girls. Their work is already making a visible difference here in Liverpool, and I hope this recognition inspires others across the country to follow their lead.

Everyone deserves to feel safe on a night out, and initiatives like this are helping to build the confidence, awareness and support networks needed to make that a reality. 👏

📢 One year on from the Water Street incident in Liverpool, it’s important to remember that the impact of trauma doesn’t always end on the day.

What happened on 26 May 2025 left a lasting impact on victims, witnesses and the wider community.

Victim Care Merseyside is here for anyone affected by crime or traumatic incidents:
✅ Free, confidential emotional and practical support
✅ Help whether or not you reported something to the police
✅ Support available whenever you’re ready — even long after the event

💬 If you, or someone you know, is still struggling — reach out. Support is there when you need it most

Because recovery doesn’t have a timeline — and no one should go through it alone.

🔑Canning Place sale complete – unlocking a major new chapter for Liverpool’s waterfront

Merseyside Police’s former headquarters at Canning Place has now been sold to the Government’s housing and regeneration agency Homes England for £17m.

Today's announcement marks the end of more than 40 years of policing history at the site – and the beginning of an exciting new phase for one of Liverpool’s most prominent waterfront locations.

Plans will now be taken forward to transform the site into a high-quality, mixed-use scheme shaped by community engagement, with plans likely to include new homes, a hotel, shops, leisure facilities and areas of open space.

Crucially, the money from this sale will be reinvested into improving police stations and facilities across Merseyside - helping ensure officers and staff have the resources they need to serve our communities.

Canning Place sits in one of the most important locations on Liverpool’s iconic waterfront, and Homes England’s involvement will bring fresh energy, new opportunities and a vibrant new neighbourhood. This marks the start of an exciting transformation for the site and the city.
