New Green Homes Grants
On 8th July 2020, the government announced that from September 2020, homeowners in England will be offered vouchers of up to £10,000 to carry out energy-saving improvements to their home. This includes the installation of double glazing windows.
The government will be giving out up to £2billion worth of vouchers called Green Homes Grants in one year. The vouchers will cover up to £5,000 of the cost of installing double glazing or insulation, with up to £10,000 available for the poorest households.
Details of the scheme are yet to be confirmed, however, it is expected that Green Homes Grants will pay for at least two-thirds of the cost of installing double glazing, and energy-saving measures while some grants would cover the entire cost.
The scheme, which is intended to help homeowners to reduce their heating bills and carbon emissions through improved insulation, i.e. reduced heat loss. The scheme should launch in September 2020 but the eligibility criteria have not been confirmed yet.
