NO to Thornton Green Belt Housing Development Plans

NO to Thornton Green Belt Housing Development Plans Sefton Council's development plans on Green Belt land. These areas also provide a network of footpaths for rambling, dog walking and running. ALL WELCOME!!

Sefton Council are proposing new housing developments on Green Belt land in and around our local area including Thornton, Little Crosby and Hightown. The more urban green spaces which are acceptable for development, the less green belt that will be needed. Breakdown of some of the 1888 potential new homes for Green Belt:

Hightown: 382; Gorsey Lane: 376; land along railway and River Alt: 231; rea

r of HFHS Thornton: 235; Virgin's Lane: 64; Lunt: 342; behind Thornton Cemetry: 150; Runnells Lane Nursery: 48.....

Sefton's Green Belt is a wildlife haven housing many species of flora and fauna including some endangered and protected species. The area provides habitats for hedgehogs, red squirrels, rabbits, colonies of bats, foxes and a host of other birds including birds of prey. Wouldn't it be nice to preserve these areas for future generations and for ourselves. It is so wrong to destroy natural habitats. My own area will be affected by these plans. I used to live in a small flat in Waterloo. The windows were high up so I was unable to view the outside (I'm disabled and I'm unable to stand up), even if it was just a carpark. In 2004 I moved to Thornton, off Virgin's Lane and I was thrilled to be able to look out onto such a lovely view - the hedge surrounding the field, horses peering over the top and an open skyline which gives off stunning outlooks in accordance to the seasons such as sunsets in late summer evenings - I want to keep this view, as do my neighbours and the public who I see daily, passing my house. It's a peaceful road and is very much the start of a popular country walk through to Little Crosby where there are proposals to build houses there too. I would be grateful if you could join me in supporting this cause to stop the developments happening. Please 'like' this page and feel free to leave comments on here or write to [email protected]

There will also be a 'drop-in' event at Little Crosby Village Hall on Tuesday, 12th July, 2011 (4p.m - 7p.m). Please pass this page to your friends too. Thanks for reading this page. Liz Smith.

Fantastic news for the people of Sefton!! Thanks to the support of our local people and the petition by F.R.A.G.O.F.F, it has been announced that David Wilson Homes application to build 274 homes on Liverpool Road has now been withdrawn. It became evident that the Green Belt land was unsuitable to build housing due to the severe risk of flooding and drainage problems.
It is now up to us to call upon the council to reconsider the inclusion of this site within the Local Plan and fully re-examine the Green Belt study that deemed the Liverpool Road site appropriate for development.

The petition by F.R.A.G.O.F.F and the Bedroom Tax Petition by residents in Bootle were the first Sefton Council Meetings to be legally recorded. It is now available on youtube, we'd like to thank the staff at Sefton Town Hall for their cooperation in this matter. We hope to record all future public…

You may have read about Sefton Council's 'Local Plan' which is set to 'shape the future of Sefton for years to come.' You can read about it on this link:
http://www.sefton.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=12556

The Plan sets out how 'new development will be managed in the period from 2015 to 2030, encourages sustainable development and economic growth and gives current and future generations more opportunities to live and work in Sefton’s outstanding environment.'

People of Thornton, however are particularly concerned about the plan to build 783 new houses.Thornton already struggles to support/manage its current residents due to poor roads (even with the new link road), no leisure facilities, no youth facilities, lack of recreational space, poor transport links, poor health facilities, let alone any facilities for the elderly/frail.

V. Baylif, a Thornton resident has been emailing local councillors and also Bill Esterson, MP for Sefton Central Labour Party to voice her concerns, some of which included the following:
‘There are so many questions that remain unanswered – Why are they not using the brown belt sites still underdeveloped, why are we not ensuring empty properties are being used. How is this sustainable Development without the appropriate infrastructure in place. What happens to ecology of this area, we have large numbers of migrating birds descend to our area every year? As we have limited recreational facilities many of us walk along the last remaining green areas along Thornton/Lunt, where will we go? For a nice walk along the new link road, or in between the bulldozers. Our children have never had any proper recreational facilities in this area for over 20 years, the only thing they did have was the right to roam the green belt, you are even taking this away from them. Urban sprawl for who, for the local community – No, for the wider local need – No (we have hundreds of houses up for sale now that cant be sold, don’t tell me there is a high demand for these properties). ‘

If you have your own concerns regarding Sefton’s ‘Local Plan’, please write/email to your local councillors and M.P:

Sefton have been holding consultations for 12 weeks which ends on Friday, 27 September 2013. The next consultation will be tomorrow at St Luke’s Church on 22nd August between 2pm. and 8pm. You would need to book in advance with a maximum of two people per request. Although this alert is very short notice on this page, it would be worth ringing up or going along to air your views. The contact number is 0151 934 3602 or e-mail [email protected]

Please try and get involved and make any of your concerns known. There is a worry that the residents of Thornton are not being informed of any of these plans in order to limit any opposing views. More venues in Thornton need to be selected for consultations rather than in Crosby which would make it easier for the elderly/frail/disabled to air their concerns.

As always. feel free to join and use this page to share your views about the Plan.

Sefton Council approved the Local Plan Preferred Option and supporting documents for consultation on 27 June 2013. The Local Plan will shape the future of Sefton for years to come. It sets out how new development will be managed in the period from 2015 to 2030, encourages sustainable development an...

One of my neighbours from Southport Road has asked me to view his response to the draft Core Strategy. He 'hopes the Councillors and officers will take due note of all our views when they produce the actual Core Strategy Document and that the draft is totally unacceptable. Here is his response to the draft CS:

Consultation Response:

We are totally against the proposals to build houses on our Green Belt and Agricultural land...
