🗞️ NEWS: Green Party welcomes new councillors making positive change in the Liverpool City Region 🗞️
The Green Party has made historic gains at the 2026 local council elections, including 456 new councillors in England and Wales, five councils and two mayors. Along with 121 seats held by the party, this means a record 577 councillors elected this year, and more than 1,300 Greens representing people across the UK today.
In the Liverpool City Region, Sefton Green Party gained two new councillors, with Kieran Dams and Samantha Cook joining Neil Doolin, who was re-elected in Waterloo and Seaforth. All three got more than 40% of the vote, while Neil received 53.4% and finished nearly 20 percentage points ahead of Labour. There were many close runs here, including in Great Crosby and Norwood.
Knowsley Green Party welcome Ria Rembadi to their team of eight councillors as she won Page Moss with a 17% swing from Labour. Knowsley Greens’ leader Councillor Kai Taylor won 50.5% of the vote to secure his seat again in Prescot South and Councillor Cath Golding was re-elected in St Gabriels with a 43.8% vote share.
