🌟 August can only mean one thing... Annual Camp season is here! 🌟

For thousands of Cadets across the UK, the next few weeks will be packed with adventure, challenge and memories that last a lifetime.

It's the month of making new friends, stepping outside your comfort zone, trying something new, getting out of your bedroom and maybe even spending your first time away from home. ✨

There will be muddy boots, tired feet, early mornings, plenty of laughs and experiences you'll be talking about for years to come.

And let's be honest... there will probably be a lot of sleeping when everyone gets home too, both cadets and adult volunteers! 😴😂

Before this year's adventures begin, here's a look back at some of the fantastic moments from Annual Camps last year. 📸

Introducing our Chair, Colonel Phaedra McLean TD DL VR

Since taking up the role of Chair of the Board at North West Reserve Forces and Cadets Association in June, Colonel Phaedra McLean has already been out and about across the region, meeting people, supporting events and championing the work of the Reserve and Cadet Forces, including last week's visit to HMS Mersey.

Having grown up in the North West, Phaedra's appointment marks a return to another significant leadership role in the region. She brings with her a wealth of experience from a distinguished military and policing career.

Joining the Territorial Army in 1987, Phaedra rose from private soldier to Colonel, serving on operations in Afghanistan and supporting operational intelligence activity connected to Iraq. Her military career included commanding 6 Military Intelligence Battalion as the first female Army Reserve Intelligence Corps officer to do so, before later serving as Deputy Commandant of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Alongside her military service, she dedicated 30 years to Cheshire Constabulary, spending much of that time as a fi****ms officer and instructor, including close protection duties supporting the Royal Household.

We're delighted to have Phaedra leading our Board as we continue to champion Defence in the North West through people, estates and funding.

Please join us in formally welcoming Phaedra to the NW RFCA family.

🐉 380km. Six days. 16,400 metres of climbing. One huge challenge.

This September, Lucas "Faz" Farrell, our Training Safety Officer at Altcar Training Camp, will take on the legendary Dragon's Back Race, a brutal journey the length of Wales that's considered one of the toughest mountain races in the world. The race covers 380km over six days, with a staggering 16,400m of ascent through some of the UK's most challenging terrain.

To put that into perspective...

🏃 380km across the mountainous spine of Wales
⛰️ 16,400m of climbing, almost twice the height of Mount Everest
🗺️ Six consecutive days of running through remote mountains and unforgiving terrain
💪 A challenge that pushes competitors to their physical and mental limits

Faz is no stranger to a challenge. A veteran, runner and valued member of our team, he doesn't run just for fitness.

In his own words:

"Running gives me that much needed headspace."

Now he's taking on the biggest challenge of his life and doing it for a cause close to his heart, raising funds for Merseyside Army Cadet Force.

Anyone who's tackled a tough run knows there are moments when your legs want to stop and your mind tells you to quit. Over six days, Faz will face those moments again and again. What will keep him moving forward is knowing he's doing it to support young people across Merseyside, helping them gain confidence, resilience, teamwork skills and opportunities they might not otherwise have.

💚 This is one of those challenges that stops you in your tracks.

Most of us will never run 380km across the mountains of Wales. Faz has chosen to do exactly that, pushing himself to the limit in support of Merseyside ACF. If you admire someone willing to dig deep, embrace the impossible and suffer for a cause bigger than themselves, please consider making a donation.

👉 Donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/lucas-farrell-4?utm_medium=CF&utm_source=WA

Every pound raised will support Merseyside ACF, and every donation will give Faz an extra boost when the Welsh mountains start biting back.

Good luck Faz. The entire NW RFCA team will be behind you every step of the way. 🐉💪

The Lord-Lieutenant was delighted to host the annual Reserve Forces and Cadet Association Awards at Browsholme.

These are the only awards that the Lord-Lieutenant makes, and they honour the outstanding commitment and achievement of the cadets, adult volunteers and reservists.

32 members of the Lancashire RFCA received awards, and all should be justifiably proud.
