Happy Anniversary to Liverpool FC! 🎉❤️

Did you know on 3 June 1892, local businessman John Houlding founded Liverpool FC also served as Liverpool’s 6th Lord Mayor (1897-98). Over the years, Liverpool’s City Halls have been deeply tied to the club’s history, hosting celebrations, tributes, and moments of honour.

🏆 Freedom of Liverpool has been awarded to legends like Bob Paisley, Kenny Dalglish, Jürgen Klopp & Steven Gerrard.
🔴 Bill Shankly famously stood on St George’s Hall steps in 1971, addressing thousands of Liverpool fans.
💛 The 97 Hillsborough victims were awarded the Freedom of Liverpool, with St George’s Hall’s Plateau hosting a historic commemorative service in 2016.
⚽️ In 2005, Liverpool’s Champions League parade centred around St George’s Hall, where the famous “Champions League Roof” photo was captured.

Today marks the 81st anniversary of VE Day, when Liverpool heard the end of the war in Europe announced from the balcony of Liverpool Town Hall.

On 8 May 1945, thousands filled Castle Street to hear Churchill’s broadcast and the Lord Mayor’s formal declaration of victory.
