🌿 A summer of activity at St Mark’s Community Garden! 🌿

There has been so much happening at St Mark’s over the summer holidays — and with plenty more still to come, it’s all too easy to forget to stop and celebrate some of the wonderful milestones we’ve reached!

The garden may be looking a little scorched after the dry, hot weather, but there are still plenty of little pockets of colour dotted around. Harvesting has definitely started early this year, with our apples and pears making an exceptionally early appearance! 🍎🍐

Our Craft Club has been busy with all sorts of creative activities, and the sewing machines have already been put to very good use — mending and making new items that are both practical and beautiful. 🧵🪡

Our school uniform initiative has also already helped a number of families, with plenty of uniform still available for anyone who needs it. 👕🎒

Meanwhile, the Repair Shop has been receiving a steady supply of broken treasures, from watches and radios to tools and ornaments. It’s fantastic to see these items being given another chance rather than ending up in the bin. 🔧📻

Most of all, it’s amazing to see so many new faces coming through our doors and making use of the free opportunities, activities and support available here at St Mark’s. 💚

☕ This coming Monday, we’ll be joined by our very own PCSO Neil for a “Cuppa with a Copper”! 👮‍♂️☕

Why not pop in for a cuppa, a chat and a chance to meet others in our community?

🌱 What’s happening at St Mark’s Community Garden tomorrow? 🌱

It really does feel like the weeks are flying by with the kids off school and so much going on! ☀️

While the kids have been busy building their den in the garden, our growers have been hard at work keeping crops alive and harvesting a wonderful variety of fruits and vegetables both here and across our community. 🥕🍓🥒🌿

🍅 Community Harvest – 9am–12noon
If you’d like to pop in, come along and help yourself to some of what’s available. And if you’ve had an abundant crop in your own garden, we’d love you to make a contribution and share it with others. Sharing is what community is all about! 💚

🧵 Craft Club – 10am–12noon
The craft club will also be open tomorrow, with an assortment of crafts to choose from. Or why not bring along your own project? You might even be able to share your skills and knowledge with others.

Our sewing machines will also be available to use, so if you fancy repairing something, giving an old item a new lease of life, or making something from scratch, come along and have a go! 🪡✂️

👕 School Uniforms – every Monday
As always, we’ll be open for people to browse through the school uniforms we have available. We’re also very grateful for any good, clean uniform donations you may have.

There’s always something happening at St Mark’s, so come along, have a look around, get involved and meet some of your community. 🌻💚

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

Done all the right things? Don’t let one wrong item undo it. Black plastic, plastic film and food waste can contaminate recycling. When in doubt, leave it out.

Another productive day in our community! 🌿💚

This morning we joined together for a community litter pick, starting from St Stephen’s Centre. A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped care for our local area – your support really does make a difference.

Afterwards, we enjoyed a well-earned brew and some toast in the drop-in café before it closed for the rest of the summer.

In the afternoon, we met at St Mark’s with Mieke from the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, who led a fantastic session in the walled garden. Together, we created a variety of habitats using different natural materials to add to our bug hotel, as well as building two large raised planters ready for wildflowers that will provide a valuable food source for our pollinators. 🐝🌼

It’s amazing how much can be achieved when a community comes together for just a couple of hours. Thank you to everyone who took part – we look forward to seeing you again soon! 😊
