🛠️🌱 Another fantastic donation for our community! 🌱🛠️

We received a large donation of various tools and other useful items today, which will be a huge help towards developing our Repair Café, Tool Library and Community Garden. 💚

A huge thank you to everyone who donates, volunteers and supports this amazing free community asset. Your generosity and support really do make a difference! 🙌

🌿 What a fantastic 12 weeks! 🐝🦋🌼

We’ve reached the end of our 12-week wildlife project, led by Lancashire Wildlife Trust, and what a success it has been!

Over the past few months, we’ve worked together to create a number of new wildlife habitats dotted between St Mark’s Community Garden and The Walled Garden. These spaces have been designed to welcome and support a wide variety of wildlife — from pollinators such as butterflies, moths and bees, to birds, bats and small mammals.

It’s been brilliant to see what can be achieved when local organisations and the community come together, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped make the project happen.

A huge thank you to:

🌱 Riverside Housing — for organising the project and making the land available.

🌻 Childwall EMB — for the use of The Walled Garden for our workshops and for joining us each week to support the project.

🦋 Lancashire Wildlife Trust — for leading, planning and guiding us throughout the 12 weeks.

💚 And finally, a massive thank you to everyone from the local community who came along, volunteered their time, shared their skills and got stuck in. The project simply wouldn’t have happened without you!

There’s still plenty more to do, and if you’d like to find out more or get involved in future green projects in the area, get in touch or pop into St Mark’s for a brew on Monday mornings, 9am–12pm. ☕🌿

Need school uniform? Before buying new, why not give second chance school uniforms a try?

At St Mark’s Community Garden, we have a selection of good-quality, pre-loved school uniform available to browse every Monday, 9am–12 noon.

💚 Everything is completely FREE.

It’s not just about helping families save money. Choosing pre-loved, good-as-new uniform also means giving perfectly usable clothing another life instead of buying new.

Every new item of clothing comes with a manufacturing footprint — from raw materials and production to transport. By choosing to reuse before buying new, we can all take small steps towards reducing our own carbon footprint and cutting down on waste. 🌍♻️

So if you’re looking for school uniform, come and have a browse before heading to the shops. You might find exactly what you need — and it won’t cost you a penny!

🌿 St Mark’s Community Garden Update 🍎🍐

It’s been a few weeks since our last update, but that’s because we’ve been keeping ourselves very busy as we move into autumn! 🍂

Over the last few weeks we’ve been:
🌱 Clearing and mulching growing beds ready for the changing seasons
🥬 Planting winter brassicas and plenty of other tasty edibles
🌿 Clearing some overgrown areas to make space for future development
🍎 Picking a bumper crop of apples and pears each week from the orchard and neighbouring vicarage
♻️ Keeping the compost heap cooking away — hopefully we’ll have some lovely homemade compost to give away in the spring!

🔧 The Repair Café has been busier than ever, with a long list of items coming through the door. In fact, demand has been so good that we’ve gone from monthly to weekly sessions to help keep on top of things. 🙌

🧵 Craft Club has also been well attended, with some amazing creations being made. Our sewing machines have been getting plenty of use, helping people repair clothes, breathe new life into old materials and get creative with upcycling.

🚶‍♀️ We were also delighted to welcome the CTMH Social Walking Group, who came along to find out more about everything happening at St Mark’s. After a talk and look around, there was time for lunch, a brew and of course, a slice of cake! ☕🍰

There really is something for everyone at St Mark’s, whatever your ability, experience or skill level.

So, if you’re around on a Monday, why not pop in and see what’s happening? You might learn something new, meet some lovely people, or simply enjoy a cuppa and a chat.
