🏆 Wing Training Day Results! 🏆

What a fantastic day representing 2490 (Spen Valley) Squadron at the recent South & West Yorkshire Wing Training Day! 💙✈️

We’re incredibly proud of all of our cadets who gave their all across the competitions, with some brilliant results:

🫡 6th Place – Foot Drill Competition
🏳️4th Place – Banner Drill Competition
💻 5th Place – Cyber Competition

These results are a true reflection of the hard work, commitment and determination our cadets have put in over the past year. The improvement we’re seeing year on year is incredible, and it’s fantastic to see that dedication paying off. 📈👏

While we’re always striving to improve even further, every cadet who represented the squadron should be immensely proud of their efforts. You represented 2490 Squadron with professionalism, enthusiasm and pride throughout the day.

A huge thank you also goes to our staff and volunteers who continue to give up their time to support and develop our cadets. 💙

🇬🇧🏛️ Squadron Visit to Eden Camp Modern History Museum 🏛️🇬🇧

Our cadets recently enjoyed a fantastic day out at Eden Camp Modern History Museum, stepping back in time to explore Britain’s wartime history. 📖✨

Throughout the visit, cadets had the opportunity to walk through the original prisoner of war camp, experience the immersive exhibitions, and learn about the people, equipment and events that shaped the Second World War. From military vehicles and aircraft displays to life on the Home Front, there was something to interest everyone.

Visits like these help bring history to life, supporting our training while giving cadets a greater appreciation of the sacrifices made by previous generations. They also provide a great opportunity to build friendships, develop teamwork and create lasting memories.

A huge thank you to the staff and volunteers at Eden Camp for making us feel so welcome throughout the day. 👏😊

Well done to all of our cadets for representing the squadron brilliantly—you were a credit to us all! 💙

Finally, a massive thank you to 2388 (Castleford) Squadron Air Cadets for kindly allowing us to use their squadron minibus for the trip. 🚌 Your support is hugely appreciated and helped make this fantastic day possible. Thank you for supporting your fellow squadron! 💪

🎯 On Target 🎯

Our cadets recently took part in a fantastic shooting session on the Air Rifle with 250 Halifax Squadron RAFAC, working through the Progressive Training and Cadet Live Firing Syllabus 🔍

This provided a great opportunity for cadets to develop their marksmanship skills, build confidence on the range, and reinforce the importance of safety, discipline, and focus 💪

It was also great for some of our junior cadets to shoot for the first time and take part in the Wing Inter-Squadron Air Rifle Competition. It was excellent to see cadets supporting each other, applying their training, and making real progress throughout the session 👏

A big thank you to Sqn Ldr Emms, Chief of Staff Strategy, for acting as our Range Conducting Officer and ensuring a safe and professional experience for all involved 🙏

This year marks the 85th Anniversary of the Air Cadets — a proud milestone celebrating decades of inspiring young people through aviation, adventure, and opportunity 🌟

To commemorate the occasion, every member of the Squadron has been presented with a special challenge coin 🪙 — a lasting symbol of belonging, pride, and the shared history of the RAF Air Cadets.

It’s a fantastic way to recognise the contribution of cadets and staff, past and present, who have helped shape the organisation into what it is today 🙌

Here’s to 85 years of achievement — and many more to come! ✈️

Congratulations to CDT Leyton McCaulsky for representing the Squadron at the Wing and Region 5-a-side football trials 👏

After a strong performance, CDT McCaulsky was selected to be part of the Regional Team — a fantastic achievement in itself 💪

The team went on to secure an impressive 2nd place overall 🥈⚽, showcasing great skill, teamwork, and determination throughout the competition.

We’re incredibly proud of his efforts and how well he represented the Squadron on a wider stage 🌟

🎯Air Rifle Shooting Success 🎯

Following an Air Rifle Range Day earlier this month, we’re proud to celebrate the fantastic achievements of several of our cadets as they progress through the shooting syllabus 👏

Cpl Naylor – Bronze Shot
Sgt Black – Blue Trained Shot & Bronze Shot
Sgt Sapsford – Silver Shot

A special mention goes to Sgt Sapsford, whose Silver Shot is the first ever achieved at 2490 Squadron — a brilliant milestone! 🌟

These achievements reflect the dedication, focus, and discipline shown by our cadets on the range. Well done to all involved — a great example of hard work paying off 💪
