Nobody warns you that growing older means becoming the keeper of a world that doesn’t exist anymore.
It has very little to do with the wrinkles.
Or the gray hair.
It’s realizing you’ve lived long enough to carry entire chapters of life inside you.
You remember voices you’d give anything to hear one more time.
You remember little hands tucked inside yours.
You remember the years when the house was loud, the days were busy, and you thought life would stay that way forever.
But it didn’t.
Somewhere along the way, those little ones grew up.
One day you’re rocking your baby in the middle of the night, wondering if you’ll ever sleep again.
And somehow, in what feels like a blink, you’re watching that same baby become a parent.
Then one day, they place their baby in your arms.
That’s the tender part of growing older.
You realize just how quickly a lifetime can pass.
And your heart holds more than it ever has before.
More love.
More memories.
More people to miss.
More moments you wish you could go back and live just one more time.
You start to understand that the things that mattered most were never really *things* at all.
They were the conversations around the kitchen table.
The candles on birthday cakes.
The familiar faces in old photographs.
The Sunday dinners that seemed ordinary then.
The laughter coming from another room.
The people who made wherever you were feel like home.
So don’t be ashamed of growing older.
Those lines around your eyes came from years of smiling.
Those gray hairs came with a life that was actually lived.
And every year behind you holds proof that you were here.
You loved.
You lost.
You learned.
You changed.
And you kept going.
There is something incredibly beautiful about that.
Because growing older is a privilege that isn’t promised to any of us.
And maybe one of the sweetest parts is reaching a season where you get to sit back and watch the love you gave all those years ago come full circle…
in the children of the children you loved first.
