Llanelli Town Mayor Cllr Louvain Roberts and Town Council Leader Cllr Sean Rees attended the unveiling of a new permanent memorial at the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway in Cynheidre to commemorate the 37 miners who tragically lost their lives while working at Cynheidre Colliery.

During the visit, the Mayor and Leader also met with local member Cllr Alex Evans and the dedicated volunteers of the Llanelli & Mynydd Mawr Railway.

The unveiling also marked the official opening of a new heritage woodland project, which will help tell the story of Cynheidre Colliery and the generations of people and families whose lives were shaped by the coal industry.

It was a moving and important occasion remembering those who lost their lives, celebrating Cynheidre’s industrial heritage, and recognising the incredible work being carried out by volunteers to ensure these stories are preserved for future generations.

Yn ystod y ymweliad, cyfarfu'r Maer a'r Arweinydd hefyd â'r aelod lleol Cllr Alex Evans a gwirfoddolwyr ymroddedig Rheilffordd Llanelli a Mynydd Mawr.

Marciwyd datgelu'r cofeb hefyd fel agoriad swyddogol prosiect coetir treftadaeth newydd, a fydd yn helpu i adrodd stori Cloddfa Glo Cynheidre a'r cenedlaethau o bobl a theuluoedd yr roedd eu bywydau wedi'u siapio gan y diwydiant glo.

Roedd yn achlysur symudol ac pwysig i gofio'r rhai a gollodd eu bywydau, dathlu treftadaeth ddiwydiannol Cynheidre, a chydnabod y gwaith anhygoel a gyflawnir gan wirfoddolwyr i sicrhau bod y straeon hyn yn cael eu cadw ar gyfer cenedlaethau'r dyfodol.

Llanelli Mayor Cllr Louvain Roberts greatly enjoyed attending the MIND 40th Anniversary Gala in Llanelli. The event was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate 40 years of the charity’s dedicated work and the positive impact it has had on the local community. The Mayor paid tribute to the staff, volunteers and supporters for their outstanding commitment over many years and for the invaluable support they continue to provide to people across Llanelli.

Mayor Cllr Roberts attended the six-month celebration of Cegin Y Bobl, the community charity based at the Antioch Centre. The event was an opportunity to celebrate the charity’s first six months and the positive contribution it has made to the local community. Attendees were able to enjoy food prepared by the dedicated volunteers and, importantly, to thank them for their time, commitment and hard work in supporting Cegin Y Bobl.

Mynychodd y Maer, Cyng Roberts, ddathliad chwe mis Cegin Y Bobl, mae'r elusen gymunedol sy'n seiliedig yn Canolfan Antioch. Roedd yr dathliad yn gyfle i ddathlu chwe mis cyntaf yr elusen a'r cyfraniad cadarnhaol i'r gymuned leol. Odd pawb yn fwynhau bwyd a baratowyd gan y gwirfoddolwyr ymroddedig ac, yn bwysicach fyth, diolch iddynt am eu hamser, eu hymroddiad a'u gwaith caled wrth gefnogi Cegin Y Bobl.
