Moreia Llangefni Moreia, Llangefni | The Presbyterian Church of WalesMoreia Chapel (Capel Moreia) on Glanhwfa Road in Llangefni is a historic Welsh Calvinistic Methodist (Presbyterian) chapel, with the current neo-classical building completed in 1898 to replace earlier structures. Associated with famous preacher John Elias, it was a central religious hub in the town, known as the John Elias Memorial Chapel.
Key Historical Details:
Founding & Origins: The original chapel was founded around 1794–1805, linked closely to the prominent Welsh preacher John Elias.
The Current Structure: Built in 1898 for £5,500, designed by architect Owen Morris Roberts of Porthmadog.
Architecture: The building features a distinctive Neo-classical style with a façade made of squared rubble and ashlar.
Development: The building underwent restoration work in the 1980s due to dry rot, and it was used as a key community and religious site throughout the 20th century.
Recent Times: In 2019, plans were discussed to convert the vestry into a cultural centre (Canolfan Glanhwfa).
Preservation: Information about the chapel is held at the National Library of Wales and Coflein.
It is known formally as Capel Moreia (CM), the John Elias Memorial Chapel. (Information from Google) Unfortunately the buildings have had a fire and destroyed most of the surrounding buildings
