The toilets to the rear of the Town Hall have been the subject of several vandalism events recently and images of the potential culprits are held and will be passed to the police for action. Stealing and/or breaking toilet seats, smashing urinals and destroying sink taps is causing additional costs to a facility which is already subsidised to the tune of £5,000+ per annum by the Town Council and the residents of Llanidloes. The toilets will be padlocked early each day for the forseeable future while investigations continue

The Town Council would like to wish T***k and Lisa of Williams Family Butchers the very best in their future endeavours. They will be greatly missed on the Ground Floor of the Town Hall. We also take this opportunity to welcome Cambrian Butchers to the Town Hall and Llanidloes and wish them well in their new premises.

Llanidloes Town Council responded to a suggestion from a local resident, Stephanie Phillips, with the procurement and siting of a ‘Talking’ Bench at Severn Porte in Llanidloes. A short, informal, service was held recently to dedicate the bench to volunteers and essential workers who cared for and supported local residents during the Covid 19 pandemic. Mayor John Hughes praised the NHS and volunteers for their dedication and hoped the bench would be lasting reminder of the commitment groups and individuals made during the pandemic. The Council would encourage those who stop for a while on the bench to enjoy the view of Long Bridge and the River Severn and ‘talk’ to one another.

Market Hall

Powys County Council has advised that the roof repairs to the Old Market Hall, following yet another vehicle strike, are scheduled for 13 – 17 July. Llanidloes Town Council is currently working with Powys County Council on a solution to this recurring traffic issue.

Skate Park

The Town Council has closed the skatepark for safety reasons. Anticipated high temperatures over the next few days may make the facility unsafe for users. It is anticipated that it will reopen at the end of this week.

The Town Council has appointed Darren Bender as the new Town and Cemetery Clerk, effective 1 July 2026. Darren lives in Llanidloes, is known to many residents, and is looking forward to bringing his skills and knowledge to the role. The current Clerk, David Powell, will take up a 1 day per week role of Responsible Financial Officer to the Council, something which was part of the existing Clerk position. This restructure will provide better coverage for the Clerk position within the Town Council. We offer Darren and David our best wishes in their new roles.

The Town Council has published the Annual Report for the 2025-26 year ending 31 March 2026 on the website – www.llanidloestowncouncil.gov.wales

The report details the activities, achievements and priorities of the Town Council and we would encourage residents to view and comment.

Llanidloes Town Council is housed in the Town Hall, a listed building given to the town by the Davies family of Llandinam and will take up and pursue any matters of importance to the town of Llanidloes and those who live in the area.

Friday saw the continuation of a 700 year old civic tradition in Llanidloes, our annual 'Mayor Making' ceremony. Cllr Dr John Hughes was sworn in as Mayor and Cllr Dan Craig as Deputy Mayor. We wish them all the very best for their term of office.
