I have often wondered why people will pay such a large premium for a house with a sea view (Your house excepted P.N.) when the view can often be of an empty sea and quite bland.

Alternatively, they could buy a boat for a fraction of the cost of a sea view and take it along the South Gower coast, or any coastline, and see a view from the boat to the shore which is nearly always much better.

Here are a few pics from yesterday, views brill, fishing very poor!

The Lighthouse will be open again for visitors on Saturday, 20th & Sunday 21st October for our penultimate weekend of the season. If you want to experience what it is like inside a working lighthouse, you only have two more weekends before we close for most of the winter. See our Posts & Reviews to see how worthwhile our visitors think their visit was, then come along for yourselves. Open 11.30 am - 5.00 pm.

We are able to open the Lighthouse for visits by the general public this weekend, 13th & 14th October. Opening times 11.30 am - 5.00 pm each day. Entrance, Adults £4.00, Children, £2.00, Families ( up to 2 adults & 4 children) £10.00. We have a minimum height limit of 1.1 metres (about 3'6") for children to ascend the tower which they must be able to do unaided and at normal speed. ( Apologies for this though, we have to have this rule to enable us to open the Lighthouse to anyone).

The second big event over the weekend was Sunday's visit by 80+ members of the Association of Lighthouse Keepers. This is an organisation with over 2,000 members with an interest in lighthouses and all things to do with them. You would be hard pushed to find a more passionate, knowledgeable and friendly group of enthusiasts. Only a small percentage of the members are ex-Lighthouse Keepers, you do not have had to have been one to become a member and membership is open to all for a very modest membership fee. If you have any interest in Lighthouses you could not do better than to join, see their website; www.alk.org.co.uk.

On a similar subject and from a local point of view, The Flat Holm Society looks after and helps to maintain the facilities and access to the island of Flatholm just a few miles off shore from Cardiff / Penarth. You can have a superb day on the island, it's packed with interesting things to do and see and, if it all gets too much, there is even a Bar there. See; Flatholmsociety.org.uk.
