Extreme wildfire warning for the whole of Scotland ๐Ÿ”ฅ

There is an extreme risk of wildfire across the whole of Scotland from today until Saturday, 2 May.

We know many people across Scotland will be wanting to enjoy the good weather across the bank holiday weekend. We ask that everyone does so responsibly.

Wildfires have the potential to destroy property, landscapes and wildlife. All it takes is one spark to spread, causing a large amount of damage.

Remember, thereโ€™s no such thing as a 'harmless' fire.

Officers are treating a fire at the playpark near to Leuchatsbeath Drive in Cowdenbeath as deliberate.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene at around 3.30am on Monday, 26 January, 2026. Following investigation, the fire is being treated as wilful and police enquiries are ongoing into the incident.

Community Inspector Alasdair Young said: โ€œWe have officers in the area conducting enquiries and will not tolerate this form of anti-social behaviour at a space that is important to the local community.

โ€œWe believe this fire was deliberately set in the early hours of Monday morning. Iโ€™d appeal for any residents who saw any suspicious behaviour or may have captured the incident on private CCTV or doorbell footage, to come forward to police.

โ€œAnyone who may have any information to trace those responsible should get in touch as soon as possible.โ€

Those with information should contact Police Scotland via 101 and quote incident number 2096 of 26 January. An anonymous report can be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Chelsea Taylor had to step back from the job she loved after breaking her back during a dream trip to Costa Rica.

But a new challenge within our Operations Control room has given her a fresh lease of life.

Chelsea is now urging others to take the step and become Control Firefighters.

Vacancies for our Control Rooms in Dundee, Edinburgh and Johnstone close a week today.

The timeline for final decisions on proposed changes to more than 30 fire stations across Scotland has been extended until after the new year.

As part of our Service Delivery Review, 23 options were presented for public consultation during the summer. We received more than 3,700 responses from the public, staff and stakeholders across Scotland.

The feedback is currently being independently analysed by an external agency, alongside the operational evidence that informed the proposals.

Deputy Chief Officer Andy Watt said: "Weโ€™ve been encouraged by the scale and detail of responses, and itโ€™s essential that we take the necessary time to review and analyse all feedback."
