Notice of vacancy in the office of Councillor for Loddon Town Council.

I must give notice, under Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972, that a vacancy exists in the office of Town Councillor for the Loddon parish area. The vacancy has arisen due to the resignation of a councillor.

For a by-election to be held to fill the vacancy, a request by ten registered local government electors in Loddon parish area must be made, not later than 07/07/2026 to: The Returning Officer, South Norfolk Council, Horizon Business Centre, Peachman Way, Broadland Business Park, Norwich, NR7 0WF.

On receipt of a valid request, the Returning Officer will set the date of an election to be held within 60 days of this notice (excluding Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays), in accordance with Rule 5 of the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) (England and Wales) Rules 2006.

If an election is not requested, the Town Council will co-opt a person to fill the vacancy as soon as practicable.

The Annual Governance & Accountability Return (AGAR) for 2025/26 was approved by Loddon Town Council on 10 June 2026.

Residents may inspect the accounts and related documents during the period for the exercise of public rights from 12 June 2026 to 23 July 2026.

Holy Trinity Church Fete

It was an honour to be invited to judge and award the prizes for the best dressed at the Holy Trinity Church Fete on Saturday 13th June. The 70's theme seemed very appropriate as the palpable sense of community was definitely reminiscent of times gone by. The organisation of the event was excellently led by Tricia and Val with many, many hours of hard work and planning before the event and a long day on Saturday - but, ladies, it was worth it. With funds raised going towards the purchase of a new boiler for St Johns, to ensure it can continue to be a hub of the community for years to come.

These events are not possible without the selfless dedication of a small army of volunteers and it's heart-warming to see the tens of people who turned out to set up the gazebos, man the stalls, BBQ the burgers and pour the seemingly endless cups of tea and coffee.

Entertainment was provided by the always superb, Chet Valley Voices and The Loddon Band.

I won't name names, but the best dressed prizes went to adorable children and equally adorable 90 year-old proving that there's no age limit on having fun and supporting the town we call home.

🏛️ Supporting Loddon's Community Assets

Loddon Town Council has agreed to provide temporary support to the Jubilee Hall Loddon. As part of this support, Loddon Town Council's Responsible Financial Officer will be employed by the Jubilee Hall for up to six months to assist with maintaining operations and reduce pressure on trustee while longer-term arrangements are put in place.

The support will be funded jointly by Loddon Town Council and Chedgrave Parish Council, reflecting the important role the Jubilee Hall plays for residents across both communities.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the existing trustees and volunteers whose dedication keeps Jubilee Hall thriving. If you would like to find out more about becoming a Jubilee Hall trustee, please get in touch with Kerry and Sarah. New trustees are warmly welcomed and your skills and enthusiasm could make a real difference.

🎨Financial Support for The Loddon and Chedgrave Arts Festival

Loddon Town Council is pleased to support the Loddon & Chedgrave Arts Festival with a grant towards face painting.

📢 Annual Parish Meeting 2027 – We Want Your Views

The Annual Parish Meeting (APM) is a yearly meeting of all parish electors. It provides an opportunity to hear reports, discuss local issues, and make advisory decisions on matters affecting the community.

An APM can be organised by the parish council, local groups, jointly, or by electors themselves if the council does not call the meeting. It must be held once a year, usually between 1 March and 1 June.

In recent years, attendance at Loddon's Annual Parish Meetings has been very low. Before making arrangements for 2027, we would like to understand whether local electors feel the meeting is valuable and whether they would be likely to attend.

It's almost that time of year again... the Summer Reading Challenge!

Each summer we challenge children to read 6 books. In return they get stickers - plus a medal and a certificate for completing the challenge. This year the theme is 'Read to the Beat', and to celebrate we'll be hosting lots of fantastic music-themed events in our libraries.

The challenge itself will launch on Saturday 4 July. We'll have more info soon, so be sure to keep an eye on our socials!

The Summer Reading Challenge is presented by The Reading Agency and delivered by libraries.
