Since its outbreak in December 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic has taken a huge toll on in-person business events such as industry summits, conferences and trade shows around the globe. While many Government’s around the world have announcement tougher restrictions related to the pandemic, the approval and rapid roll out of several COVID-19 vaccines has rekindled hope for the reopening of events. However, their positive effects remain inextricably linked to the ongoing compliance of virus control best practice.

It is against this background that the events landscape has seen one positive step forward with the ground-breaking launch of Safe2Attend – an independent certification service for venues, organisers and suppliers of face-to-face events.

Since its launch, the independent certification service by Safe2Attend has received great interest and plaudits from the events industry. One of our certificate awardees, Sounds Commercial, planned and successfully managed the online summit by on 17/12/2020.

The production crew and the support team working in this event is independently certified to the Safe2Attend™ Standard, and they did a perfect job of keeping everyone safe.

We have all been doing things slightly differently in 2020, but, as the New Year approaches, 2021 might seem like business as usual rather than exceptional times. As we have changed the ways in which we work, travel, shop, socialise we have found ourselves planning for and performing new duties. Some of these duties we had never considered in “more normal” times and some will stay with us for a long time to come.

As the Events Industry fixes one eye on its reopening (following the UK Government’s Winter Plan launch last month), it will need to consider how Hygiene and Virus Control policies and procedures are maintained. In other words, it will need a robust framework to support both mandatory and optional commitments to employees, suppliers, clients and attendees of events to come.

UK GOV’S WINTER PLAN SIGNALS A RESTART FOR THE EVENTS INDUSTRY

Buried deep in the UK Government’s COVID-19 Winter Plan is a golden nugget that may not trigger a gold rush but may signal the beginning of the return of the Events Industry:
