🎭 Pretend Play: Building Skills Through Imagination
Did you know that young children learn about the world by copying what they see around them? Through pretend play, children explore everyday experiences, ideas, and emotions in a safe and fun way.
🌟 Pretend play helps children to:
✨ Develop confidence and independence
✨ Build self-awareness and self-control
✨ Strengthen communication and social skills
✨ Use their imagination and creativity
As children grow, they begin using one object to represent another, such as using a banana as a phone or a bowl as a hat. This important skill helps children understand that symbols can stand for something else, laying the foundations for future reading and writing.
🧸 Simple toys are often the best for encouraging imaginative play:
👒 Hats, bags and scarves
🪆 Dolls, puppets and soft toys
🚜 Large vehicles and farm animals
🫖 Tea sets and role-play toys
💜 Join in, follow your child's lead, and watch their imagination grow!

• 🌟 Supporting Your Toddler's Communication & Language Development 🌟
• Did you know that songs, rhymes, and movement are wonderful ways to help your toddler develop communication skills?
• 🎵 Sing action songs together, such as Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.
• 🔊 Have fun changing your voice by singing songs and rhymes loudly, quietly, quickly, and slowly.
• 👏 Encourage a sense of rhythm by clapping, marching, and moving to music with a strong beat.
• 🥤 Create simple homemade shakers using empty plastic bottles filled with buttons, rice, or other safe materials that make a noise.
• 🌳 Take the fun outdoors! Open spaces give children the freedom to sing, dance, explore, and make lots of noise.
• 💜 Every song, rhyme, and playful interaction helps build your child's confidence, language, and love of learning.

• 👶 Pre-Birth and Babies
• Communication & Language Development
• 💜 Talk, sing and connect with your baby from the very beginning!
• 🎵 Sing and play music to your unborn baby. Hearing familiar music after birth can help babies feel comforted and secure.
• 👀 Face your baby when talking to them. Copy the sounds they make and give them time to respond. This is the beginning of conversation.
• 🎶 When you're busy around the house, reassure your baby that you're nearby by singing a special song or nursery rhyme.
• 👏 Clap, pat and tap along to simple songs and rhymes. Babies love repetition, so don't be afraid to sing favourite songs again and again.
• 🐶 Add fun sounds to stories and everyday interactions, such as "woof woof", "moo", or "beep beep".
• 🥄 Encourage exploration by providing safe everyday items to tap and bang, such as wooden spoons and saucepan lids.
• 🌟 Every chat, song and rhyme helps build your baby's communication skills.
