🎬 SKAMMATA comes to London this November

Following a series of screenings across the UK and a very warm response from audiences, we are delighted to invite you to the London screening of SKAMMATA, the documentary directed by Danae Stylianou and produced by M.P.L. Productions for the Department of Antiquities of the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Culture.

📅 Sunday, 22 November 2026
🕝 2:45 p.m.
📍 Cyprus House, London

The screening will be followed by a special Q&A with representatives of the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, offering audiences the opportunity to discuss the archaeology, history and cultural heritage at the heart of the documentary.

SKAMMATA brings together Cypriot and foreign archaeologists, as well as retired members of the Department of Antiquities, who reflect on their personal memories of the events of 1974 and on the profound consequences of war for Cypriot archaeology.

Interweaving archival material from excavations with powerful personal testimonies, the film explores defining moments in the history of archaeology in Cyprus before and after the tragic summer of 1974.

🎞 Duration: 87 minutes
🗣 Original dialogue: Greek, English and French
💬 Subtitles: Greek and English

What do we carry with us when we move from one place to another?

Perhaps it is a language, a photograph, a family story or the memory of a landscape. Perhaps it is a melody, a gesture, an object or a tradition that changes as it passes from one generation to the next.

Our 2027 Cultural Season begins with this question.

✨ CYPRUS 2027 – THE TRACES WE CARRY ✨
Routes • Traces • Horizons

The Cultural Section of the Cyprus High Commission in the United Kingdom is now welcoming proposals for complementary events and creative projects to become part of our 2027 programme.

We invite artists and cultural practitioners to explore the visible and invisible connections between Cyprus, the United Kingdom and the wider world.

Routes may take us through migration, diaspora, displacement, cultural exchange, return and belonging.

Traces may be found in memory, archaeology, archives, language, family histories and the marks left by people and places.

Horizons invite us to look forward—to new creative voices, evolving identities, contemporary practices and unexpected collaborations.

Proposals may take the form of theatre, music, dance, literature, poetry, film, visual or digital art, performance, design or interdisciplinary work. We are interested in thoughtful and achievable ideas that can speak to audiences today, encourage dialogue and bring people together.

Projects must take place in the United Kingdom during 2027 and have a meaningful relationship with Cyprus, its culture, heritage, communities or contemporary creative life.

If something in this theme speaks to your own practice, we would love to hear from you.

📧 Please email [email protected] to arrange a short online conversation before submitting your application. This initial discussion will allow us to hear about your idea and share the relevant application information with you.

📅 Deadline for completed applications: 25 September 2026

The time available is limited, so please contact us soon.

Every journey leaves a trace. Perhaps yours will become part of our 2027 story.
