Recent LLB graduate Gisoo Akhavan spoke at her graduation ceremony last month, having graduated first in her class. She shared how she had to navigate her studies in law while her home country, Iran, was at war and it became increasingly difficult to communicate with her family.

“I used law as a refuge for myself because whenever I studied law, I wouldn't think of anything else. That focus was my only sanctuary. I turned my pain into purpose. Even though it was painful, I felt privileged to still be able to study.”

Congratulations to City St George's team on winning the third and final phase of the SAPIENCE autonomous drone programme competition in the Netherlands! 🎉

The €1.2m programme is a multi-year initiative funded by the Science for Peace and Security Programme of NATO and the City St George's team has been led by Professor Nabil Aouf, Professor of Robotics, Autonomous Systems, and Machines at the School of Science & Technology.

Professor Aouf reflected, "Through this competition and the entire SAPIENCE programme, we have developed a robust capability that positions City St George’s, University of London, prominently within the international autonomous drone research community."

Rebecca Sinclair, Chief Brand Officer at Penguin Random House UK, has been appointed Honorary Professor in the Department of Publishing at City St George’s, University of London.

Rebecca will contribute two lectures each year to Creative Writing and Publishing students, focusing on industry trends, reading for pleasure, freedom of expression and the social role of publishing.
