Hot off the press! The 2026 edition of The Edit is packed with news, features, a welcome from City St George's President, Professor Sir Anthony Finkelstein, and the always popular "Alumni to Watch". Who made the list this year? 👀

Also featured are Kate Aubrey-Johnson OBE (Bar Vocational Course, 2001) and Naomi Hulston MBE (MSc in Executive Leadership, Business Administration and Management, 2021) who were celebrated in the King's Birthday Honours this summer. Kate, a barrister and mediator at Garden Court Chambers, and Naomi, Chief Executive at Catch22, talked to us about their respective careers and how it enables them to help care-experienced young people find meaningful work.

As part of the Department of Journalism's 50th anniversary celebrations, 50 Journalism alumni from across courses, cohorts and platforms, have been longlisted for City St George's Golden Ambassador of Journalism award.

📯 "Algorithms and Accountability – Lessons from 1985: In Conversation with Professors Collier and Sheba"

In the 1980s, Professor Joseph Collier uncovered how a computer programme which assisted with processing student applications discriminated against women and ethnic minority applicants.

On Wednesday 14 October 2026, City St George's will host a conversation with Emeritus Professor Collier and Professor Baba Sheba to examine how important accuracy and honesty of digital systems is as artificial intelligence becomes increasingly influential.

This event is part of City St George's institutional events marking Black Futures Month.

City St George's and Bayes alumni met up for inaugural networking drinks in Madrid yesterday! 🎉

Thank you to Alumni Volunteer Olaf Clayton (PG Dip Property Valuation and Management, 1997) for hosting the evening and helping us build a vibrant alumni community in Spain. Also a big thank you to those who attended!

📢 Nature-based Solutions Symposium - Call for Papers!

The Centre for Food Policy at City St George's are leading on a research project called Joined Up Landscapes. Project partners at Birkbeck, University of London are now calling for papers for a two-part, hybrid symposium in November and December 2026 to explore how evidence, modelling and field knowledge of nature based solutions can be translated into more creative, participatory and public-facing forms.

The project is seeking proposals in a wide range of formats and from a diverse range of presenters; from farmers to policymakers to artists.

Submissions close on Friday 16 October 2026.
