“Stronger Children -Less Violence 2” is a project funded by the European Commission to create a training on violence prevention and de-escalation in pre- and primary schools by developing social and civic competencies in children.
The need for the project stems from the fact that usual violence prevention training starts much later in life – if at all – usually in secondary school. There is a huge market for children’s books tackling the problem of “outsiders” attacking the children. It is up to the parents to raise the issue, but it should be also the task of teachers/educators as violence occurs more often in the immediate surroundings of children. Peer attacks are seen as natural to a certain extent. Although there is a certain degree of natural aggressiveness among (small) children – they still have to learn how to handle it. In real life not only parents but also educators and teachers are often not sure how to deal with such behaviour, do not know what can be considered to be “normal” behaviour yet, what needs special consideration and how to detect bullying. In addition, the development of social competences is a process and cannot be learned in a short course.
The project pursues a much wider concept of “violence prevention” than commonly used. It aims to strengthen social competences especially children’s self-protective competences as it is known that showing strength and self-confidence can indeed put off potential attackers or offenders.
The project aims to advance the “Collection of Exercises" developed in the previous project “Stronger children – less violence” and test it in new countries also for pre-schools.
The final products are:
• Collection of Activities to be used for the work with children
• Teacher’s Handbook with the description of the methodology of implementing the exercises in the classroom
• Train the Trainer concept for partners to be able to provide training courses for teachers.

EuroLib is in the ARTES Community of Practice platform.
ARTES “Art as a vehicle for Education and Social inclusion” is a project co-funded by the European Commission to answer the need to create a trans-sectoral platform for the exchange of training methodologies/approaches that use the arts for education and social inclusion, developed in previous projects. The exchange leads towards the multiplication and mainstreaming of the validated results and products of the projects.
ARTES users are mainly from communities, schools, social centres, associations, artistic and academic circles and will include art operators, artists, trainers, teachers, educators, social workers, students and all those with an interest in using the arts for education and social inclusion.
Artists are very much involved in the discussion... In the last decades, partly due to revealing scientific research, the role of the arts widened towards new applications far beyond their entertainment function.
The artists’ role is expanding likewise into new, fascinating territories and is increasingly linked to social work.
On ARTES you can find methodologies and practices used in European Union funded projects, news, ideas, tips, techniques, insights and visions of art practitioners, artists, social operators and educators from across Europe and beyond.

Is the PopuLLar project the best language project EVER for secondary students?

So whats so good about EU PopuLLar project? Well it’s a project that is 'Owned' by the students who work autonomously and collaboratively; teachers are facilitators and guides to the project process ONLY. It uses the students own love of music as the motivator and we know teenagers love their music.

The project asks students to write their own lyrics to songs of their choice. Write their song in the target language they are learning. Record song (audio or video) and share it with other students all over Europe.
