Shandong is located on China’s eastern coast, between Beijing and Shanghai. It covers a land and sea area of 158,000 square kilometers each, has a population of over 100 million, and ranks third in China in terms of GDP.
As the birthplace of Confucianism, Shandong is known as the “Hometown of Confucius and Mencius, Land of Rituals and Propriety”. Mount Tai, the most revered of the Five Great Mountains, symbolizing “peace and prosperity of the nation”, is the world’s first dual natural and cultural heritage. The “Three Confucian Sites” in Qufu and the Yellow River Estuary migratory bird habitat are also world heritage sites. Jinan is the “City of Springs”, and Qingdao, famous for Tsingtao Beer and Olympic sailing, is a popular coastal tourist destination.
Shandong people value etiquette and righteousness, and are sincere, kind and hospitable. Confucius’ teaching “Is it not a delight to have friends coming from afar?” has been passed down for thousands of years.

“Home Sweet Home” Exhibition Concludes in London linking Qinghai and London together

On the afternoon of August 14, a gathering celebrating art, heritage, and travel unfolded at the Mall Galleries in London.

The venue hosted the closing ceremony of artist Zhang Huaicun’s solo exhibition Home Sweet Home alongside the Qinghai Culture and Tourism Promotion Event.

Nearly 200 guests from the UK and China attended, including D**g Fuhai, Director-General of the Qinghai Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism; Zhang Li, Director of China National Tourist Office (CNTO) London; and Mick Davies, former President of the Royal Society of British Artists.

The event served not only as the finale of a month-long exhibition but also as an innovative international exchange utilizing art as a medium and nostalgia as a bridge.

Living Heritage: Chinese Silk Craftsmanship

Delicate, lustrous, and soft to the touch. The ethereal fabric that we now call silk has threaded its way throughout China's history.

One cannot be certain of its origin, but the humble ancient Chinese people credited their own wisdom to Leizu, wife of the Yellow Emperor (the legendary ancestor of all Chinese people), as the inventor of sericulture.

Like almost all genres of art on the vast land of China, the style and texture of silk are also multifarious. Hangluo satin from Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, is renowned for its airy and sheer texture, while Yunjin brocade from Nanjing, Jiangsu province, a luxurious fabric often used for royal garments, represents China's silk weaving technique at its prime.

Yunjin brocade is best made by hand on giant looms, in a complex procedure that comprises more than a hundred steps. Even the most skilled artisans can only weave a few centimeters a day. Time, patience and deftness all play imperative roles to its heavenly beauty, or as its name suggests, its cloud-like splendor.

In the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), with diplomat and explorer Zhang Qian opening up the routes to the western regions, silk graced countries in Central Asia, later extending its reach to other parts of Eurasia and beyond. Fittingly, its name marked China's major international trade routes, the ancient Silk Road and Maritime Silk Road.

In the hands of Chinese artists, the thinnest threads can weave pictures of immense possibilities, and the softest material can traverse thousands of years. As one of the many marvels of ancient China, silk is not merely a type of textile. It is a cultural icon, and an embodiment of elegance and grace.
