This week is Volunteers' Week (1 - 7 June). We are shining a light on our fantastic volunteers and the incredible work they do for our Trust.
Today's featured volunteer is Yasmin Nouioua.
āBefore I started volunteering at Whittington Hospital, I had never done anything like this before. I was expecting a constantly busy, fast-paced environment, however some days are slower, and some days will have you running around from the start to finish - no two days are the same.
My current role involves spending time with dementia patients and helping out with a weekly singing group for them. Over the past year, Iāve gained confidence, communication skills, compassion, and a great amount of knowledge on dementia. However, Iād say that the best part of this role is listening to the patient's stories and seeing the smiles on their faces and knowing that Iāve brightened their day.
My biggest piece of advice for any new volunteers would be to just go for it! Persevere through any wobbles, because in a hospital environment it canāt be guaranteed that everything will always be smooth sailing, but keep going and youāll settle in and find your place.ā
