KERBSIDE COLLECTIONS
As the new bin collection arrangements come into effect on Monday, I am very aware of the ongoing concerns and frustrations being expressed by residents, particularly those living in the long terraced streets where bins will now need to be moved a considerable distance for collection.
The information I have received from the Council's Waste Team is that the change has been made on health and safety grounds. This relates to the operation of refuse vehicles within confined alleyways, where there are concerns about safe manoeuvring, reports of damage to property, and the limited ability for drivers to leave their vehicles quickly in the event of an emergency.
I fully appreciate that this change presents practical difficulties for many residents and that it will be especially challenging for some people.
If you are elderly, have mobility difficulties, or are otherwise unable to move your bin to the collection point, and have not already done so, please contact Streetscene to discuss whether you are eligible for an assisted collection service.

Please be assured that I remain in contact with the Council regarding the concerns that residents have raised. I have put forward a suggestion that may help to reduce some of the difficulties being experienced and am currently awaiting a response. If a workable solution can be found, I will share further information with residents as soon as possible through this page.
