🦌 Keep our parks' deer wild – please don't feed them

Following the tragic shooting of a stag after an attack on a park visitor, local Lib Dem councillors are urging everyone visiting Richmond and Bushy Parks to remember these deer are wild animals, not tame ones.

Councillors met with Richmond Park Manager Paul Richards this week to talk through the incident and wider concerns about deer behaviour and visitor safety. Park staff explained that repeated feeding by visitors may be causing some deer to become too used to people – associating them with food, which can lead to unpredictable and dangerous behaviour.

The message is simple: there's plenty of natural food for the deer across both parks, so there's no need to feed them.

Remember to stick to the signs – keep at least 50 metres away from the deer at all times.

"The volunteer park rangers are doing a critical job engaging with visitors and reminding them to keep a safe distance from the deer. However, we remain concerned about the loss of the dedicated Parks Police, something we campaigned against. The MET'S Safer Neighbourhood Teams do have a presence in the park and are patrolling and keeping order, but this is no substitute for the specialist Parks Police team that was disbanded in 2025. Given the increasing concerns about visitor safety and deer behaviour, we believe it is time for the specialist Parks Police to be reinstated" said East Sheen Cllr Julia Cambridge.

Big milestone for Richmond 👏

Since 2020, Richmond Work Match - run by the borough's Liberal Democrat council - has helped over 1,200 residents into training or work: 872 into training and 337 into lasting jobs.

The scheme's free for residents (CV writing, interview prep, confidence-building) and free for local employers needing recruitment support. It's also expanded to reach people who often get overlooked in the jobs market, including those managing health conditions or caring responsibilities, through a new strand called Connect to Work.

Cllr Phil Giesler, Lead Member for Business and Growth, said: "Richmond has one of the strongest local economies in London, but we cannot take that success for granted. If our borough is to continue to thrive, we must ensure local people have the skills, training and opportunities they need to succeed in a changing economy."

In June alone, nearly 500 residents and 30 local organisations came together for Employ Richmond, a jobs and training event that showed just how much demand there is.

Five years in, this is what happens when a council makes economic fairness a priority, not an afterthought. for more visit:https://www.trlibdems.org.uk/news/article/richmonds-work-match

🚨 Andy Burnham once called the Heathrow third runway a plan to drain investment from the North into London.

Now he's PM — and Labour still backs the £49bn scheme.

📉 700+ homes bulldozed
🌳 1,300 acres of green space destroyed
❤️‍🩹 3 million residents' health at risk

Time to walk the talk, PM.

Our local rail services aren’t good enough and we are demanding better.

Residents in Hampton, Fulwell and Whitton are calling for:

🔸More frequent and reliable trains
🔸Better-spaced services with fewer long gaps
🔸More trains at peak times and on Sundays
🔸Hounslow Loop trains reinstated, and/or Reading trains stopping at Whitton
🔸At least 4 trains per hour through Hampton & Fulwell

For too many people, getting to work, school or home means relying on a service that can be unreliable, overcrowded and infrequent.

600+ people have already added their voice. Will you join them?
