Rethinking dementia care through lived experience and community voices 💬

The African and Caribbean Elders (ACE) Study research team at the Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory (GIAM) at UWL recently collaborated with community champions to deliver a powerful one-day event focused on reflective discussions about dementia care in the UK from Black and South Asian perspectives.

Titled ‘Dementia in Colour: Voices from the Margins,’ the event brought together people with lived experience of dementia, care partners, researchers and professionals from across the voluntary, community, health and social care sectors.

We were delighted to host the IFIP WG 13.6 working conference on Harmonisation of Human and Machine Intelligence in the 5th Industrial Revolution at the University of West London.

Opened by Prof. Anthony Hilton and led by Prof. José Abdelnour-Nocera, the conference brought together global experts to explore human-AI collaboration and the future of work. Highlights included an inspiring keynote by Prof. Karen Cham and a thought-provoking panel on designing meaningful work in the age of intelligent systems.

Selected as two of just ten nominees nationwide, Kyra was named one of this year's winners for her documentary PROUD, while Ruby was shortlisted for her powerful feature BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. 🎬

Their achievements highlight the strength of audio storytelling and creative talent emerging from UWL's London School of Film, Media and Design. ✨

Congratulations to both students and to Senior Lecturer Suzi Bowerman, who supported their work throughout the project. 💙
