The Feminist Library

Founded in 1975, the Feminist Library is a growing archive of materials relating to feminism, led by a collective of volunteers.

The Library is also an intersectional community space, which is trans-inclusive and welcomes visitors of all genders. We support research, activism and community projects. Our non-fiction collection consists of about 5,000 books dating from 1900 to the present day. The collection is very strong in the areas of the arts, politics and the Women’s Liberation Movement, women’s history, and mental and

physical health. We also have about 2,500 works of fiction from all around the world, the majority of which are in English and some in various European and Latin American languages. Our poetry collection of some 500 publications represents a significant number of little-known and/or self-published woman poets, as well as poetry by more well-known and commercially published women. An estimated 1,500 periodicals titles are represented. They date from the late 1960’s to the present day and they occupy about 85 metres of library shelving. We also hold a growing collection of self-published zines. The Feminist Library Bookshop is open at the Library every Saturday selling new and used books and periodicals, zines, contemporary magazines, badges, totes and other merchandise. "Our next BFRG is happening on Tuesday 19th May 6:30 - 8:00pm at The Feminist Library.

This month we'll be reading The Fat Lady Sings by Jacqueline Roy.
Originally published in 2000, this novel explores the intersections between race, class and Black women's mental health in the UK.

Please note, this book describes mental illness, forced institutionalisation, and other sensitive topics in graphic detail. With that in mind, please engage with this month's reading in a way that feels safe for you!

Join us to learn how you can contribute to Wikipedia, the free, online encyclopedia, written and maintained by a community of volunteers. In these two sessions, we'll be editing pages on Wikipedia relating to transfeminism and trans women, improving knowledge pathways and clearing up some facts!

Trainers from Wikimedia UK will give an overview of how to edit Wikipedia, why it is important and will help you get started on your Wikipedia editing journey. Everybody is welcome. No special skills are needed. Come with your curiosity! This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with experience alike.

We’ll have a list of suggested articles to work on, but if you have something that you’d like to edit please bring that too! The suggested articles have been drawn up by co-host and researcher Jaye Hudson from TgirlsonFilm, who works to dig up and document UK transfeminist history and transfem life for zines, screenings, and community projects.

What you will need:

- A Wikipedia account, made before the event starts.
- A laptop! (you can borrow one of ours, but I'm sure yours is nicer)
- that's it!

Snacks will be provided.

Shorts for Palestine

Join .png for a fundraiser film screening and badge workshop at the Feminist Library on 15 May in remembrance of Nakba Day.

We will be screening short films about and from Palestine, followed by a badge-making workshop where participants can make their own protest badges using materials from the Feminist Library's own archives.

Doors will open at 6:30pm, and the screening will begin promptly at 7pm.

This event is a fundraiser and all ticket proceeds and donations will go to MAP: Medical Aid for Palestinians.

🧊 Fighting ICE Everywhere - a live simultaneous multi-city event across 6 timezones, co-organised by South London Anti-Raids and Plan C.

Join us for an experiment in transnational organising! In the face of repressive immigration policies, racist neocolonial tactics, livestreamed genocides, and militarised borders, we need a global response, mass participation, and determination to defend people and everyday life.

The Peckham event will be one of many held across the world (with 10+ in different parts of London and the UK). We'll watch live presentations (via an online stream) from a panel including LA Tenants Union, Arizona Migra Watch, No Detention Centers in Michigan, and DAMN (Direct Action Minnesota). Followed by an assembly of participants at each in-person event to reflect, inquire, and translate those experiences to our local context. Finally, feedback from the assemblies to all spaces, finishing with responses from the panel.

"In this workshop you will be guided through the entire linocut printing process from start to finish, including the creation of your designs, carving and printing.In addition, this workshop will focus on portraiture and will include a drawing section where participants will work in alternating pairs to create portraits of each other using quick and dynamic techniques.

This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners, as well as those who have some printmaking experience and want to approach the medium in a new way.

The workshop will run for 3h with a 15 minute break. Please arrive 10 minutes early for a 1:30pm start.

You will not need to bring anything for the workshop, but please be aware that we will be working with sharp materials as well as oil-based inks and you are advised to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.

Please note that this workshop is for participants aged 18+ and aimed at those who identify as Trans+

The workshop will be run by Nikolas Wereszczyński who is an active painter and printmaker. He has experience running art workshops with the Red Art Club in Clapham as well as Camden Council, and has recently completed the Camden Trans Folk Project for Love Camden."

is a neurodivergent, mentally ill, non-binary folk-punk musician, at MINCE they will be playing some of their original, theatrical, silly and brutally honest songs.

After documenting the Drag scene for nearly 10 years, trans artist turns the camera towards the audience of a London Drag Kings Festival to understand what Drag Kinging means to them, how it has evolved and what challenges it faces.

is a big hearted and sensitive human who gains most of their inspiration whilst naked and deeply submerged in a bath. They will be performing a compilation excerpt from their debut solo show, That’s Just The Way It’s (un)Done.

will be performing her new piece The Lounge Singer, about a *cough cough* Lounger Singer who has an existential crisis every time she try's to sing.
