A former finance employee who diverted almost £92,000 intended for a leading breast cancer charity into his own bank account, spending the money on personal debts, luxury purchases including a £14,000 ring, and travel, has been sentenced.

The court heard that Tameem Choudhury, 29, of Gujarat House, Stoke Newington Church Street, London exploited his position within the charity's finance team to intercept a refund payment worth £91,966.72 that should have been returned to Breast Cancer Now.

Within weeks of receiving the funds, Choudhury embarked on a spending spree, using the stolen money to pay off personal debts, make cash withdrawals, fund wedding and honeymoon expenses, purchase luxury items that included a £14,000 Alexander Brown ring, and transfer money to family members.

A man has been sentenced to more than three and a half years in prison following a complex investigation into the use of sophisticated fraud technology capable of bypassing mobile network security protocols.

Mohammed Faiyaz Iqbal, 43, was arrested on 24th May 2024 while sitting in a van at the Trafford Shopping Centre car park. Officers identified the vehicle as being in the same vicinity as a large number of fraudulent SMS messages being transmitted to members of the public.

The messages sent by Iqbal impersonated legitimate organisations, including Royal Mail, and were designed to trick recipients into providing payment and personal details, commonly referred to as “smishing”.

Examination of Iqbal’s mobile phones revealed 7,859 compromised payment card details. Further searches at his home address uncovered additional compromised banking material and three counterfeit UK driving licences, which were being used to set up impersonation bank accounts to launder criminal proceeds.

Our Project Servator officers have been out and about this summer at key locations and events throughout the City. The team have been highly visible at the iconic landmarks in the Square mile including St Pauls Catherdral, Tower Bridge and Leadenhall Market.

Officers been working with our dog section and partners including MPS Marine Unit to carry out deployments to make the City Safer for those who work, live and visit London. The officers were amongst the crowd at The Standard Chartered Great City Race, engaging with runners and supporters.

Project Servator aims to disrupt a range of criminal activity, including terrorism, while providing a reassuring presence for the public. Our officers are experienced and specially trained to spot the tell-tale signs that someone is planning or preparing to commit an act of crime.

The City of London Police Domestic Corruption Unit (DCU) have today made four further arrests in relation to an ongoing investigation involving the Police Federation of England and Wales (PFEW).

The arrests are the latest development in a significant investigation into allegations of fraud and bribery, following three arrests carried out earlier this year (March 2026).

A shoplifter has ended up back behind bars after stealing buzzballz.

Max Couthlan-Lawlar, 26, of no fixed abode, has been recalled to prison after being caught on CCTV stealing the alcoholic drinks.

A brazen thief who stole a bike on a busy City street full of people in broad daylight has been jailed.
Christopher Forrester, 39, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to theft of a bicycle and breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).

On Tuesday 16 June 2026, at around 6:15pm, Forrester was caught on CCTV using an angle grinder to cut through a D-lock on a bike on Cheapside, a busy street full of people going about their day.
Two City of London Police officers were on patrol at the time and were alerted of the attempted theft by members of the public.

When officers approached Forrester, the thief picked up the stolen bike and attempted to get away.
Officers gave chase, and following some assistance from a member of the public, Forrester was arrested.

The bike, with a value of around £1,800, was returned to the owner.

City of London Police Commissioner Pete O’Doherty is one of 50 police chiefs who have called on the Prime Minister Andy Burnham to look at whether the early release of those responsible for PC Andrew Harper's death can be prevented.

An open letter also calls for the introduction of stronger protections for victims and communities when release arrangements change.
