On International Day of the Girl Child, we're highlighting what it takes to prevent child marriage at the community level: people who know families well enough to see trouble early, and a system that lets them act.

Anganwadi (community) workers are a critical part of that system. They are trusted local figures who visit families regularly, and they sit on the Child Welfare and Protection Committees (CWPCs) that Mission Vatsalya envisions as the first line of response.

Through our KAWACH programme, which is closely aligned with Mission Vatsalya, we equip Child Welfare and Protection Committees and critical community stakeholders like Anganwadi workers with training, tools and clear resolution pathways, helping build child-friendly villages where children can play, learn and grow safely.

For World Mental Health Day, we’re sharing Hassan’s story, highlighting why accessing mental health support early can make such a difference.

For many children and young people, emotional distress can go unnoticed. They may be waiting to be heard, understood or simply for someone to recognise that they need support.

Across South Asia, the British Asian Trust works with families, schools and communities to make early intervention possible, helping vulnerable children access the support they need.

For World Mental Health Day, we’re shining a light on the difference mental health support can make.

At 29, Nipa was a mother and homemaker, raising her six-year-old daughter when an acid attack changed their lives.

For survivors of violence, recovery can mean more than healing physical wounds. Access to mental health support can be an important part of rebuilding confidence and hope.

Read the full case study on our website to discover how she is rebuilding her life, pursuing her ambitions and looking towards a different future.

For World Mental Health Day, we’re shining a light on the difference mental health support can make.
At 25, Riti was working in a garment factory while living with years of fear, violence and emotional pain.
For a long time, she didn’t know that the struggles she was experiencing were something she could seek help for.
Read the full case study on our website to discover Riti’s story and how access to mental health support through our Moner Kotha programme supported by Primark helped her begin to find hope again.
Over the coming week, we’ll be sharing more stories of people, programmes and partnerships helping to expand access to mental health support, challenge stigma and promote mental wellbeing.

Proud to be working with UNICEF India in support of the Government of Bihar.

As part of our KAWACH child protection programme, our affiliate BAT Bharat, registered as the British Asian India Foundation, has signed a Letter of Intent focused on strengthening child protection systems, ending child marriage, preventing violence against children, supporting adolescent empowerment, and mental health and psychosocial support.

Together, we're working towards a Bihar where every child can grow up safe, empowered, and able to realise their full potential.
