It is a Grade II listed building of local and historical importance. It was the home of the leading Wimbledon suffragette Rose Lamartine Yates and served as a centre of activity and refuge during the campaign for women’s suffrage. In recent years the building has fallen into disrepair (the building was sold to Merton at one point, before it was passed to a housing association. It has since been sold on to a developer and is now up for sale again).

We have asked Merton Council's administration what action the Council intends to take to ensure this heritage asset is properly protected, repaired and brought back into appropriate use.

Merton Council meets tonight and the Lib Dems will be asking searching questions of the Labour administration.

We'll be challenging them on planning enforcement, temporary housing inspections, services charges for leaseholders, their spending on more Labour office staff & more.

The first question we are asking tonight is about the expansion of the number of staff (and costs) in the Labour Leader's office.
