Last Thursday was a day of celebrations at Mount Alvernia Hospital as we welcomed Zöe Franklin, Member of Parliament for Guildford, to join us in marking over 90 years of community focused care.
Ms Franklin, who was first elected in 2024, was given a tour of hospital by Director of Clinical Services Rosie Wilson. Ms Franklin took great pleasure in seeing first-hand, how staff and consultants at the hospital supported patients from across her constituency and beyond.
The tour finished with an unveiling of the Mount Alvernia History Wall which charts the hospital's journey from 1935 to the present day. During the unveiling, Ms Franklin was joined by some of the hospital's very first patients. Dubbed the 'Mount Alvernia Babies', the guests had all been born at the hospital and Ms Franklin enjoyed the opportunity to meet and speak to them about their lives.
Commenting on the visit, Zöe Franklin MP said:
"It was wonderful to be able to join in Mount Alvernia’s celebrations and unveil the commemorative plaque marking their anniversary. It was a particular joy to meet a number of 'Mount Alvernia Babies' who were born at the hospital during its time as a nursing home. Over the years, the hospital has grown into a vital local healthcare facility, offering patients some truly innovative treatments, including robot-assisted joint replacement surgery.
I’m delighted that Guildford’s residents have access to top-quality care at Mount Alvernia and I would like to say a huge thank you to Rosie and the team for showing me around.”
Our thanks to Zöe and her team for taking the time to visit and celebrate this important milestone with us.
