๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช SAPPHIRE KENYA | COMMUNITY, CONNECTION & IMPACT ๐Ÿ’™

Wednesday was a truly special day for Sapphire Kenya, with two meaningful moments that reflect exactly why we do this work: empowering people, strengthening communities and creating opportunities for the future.

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿ’ผ Empowering Women & Building Sustainable Futures

We had another wonderful opportunity to meet with women from two local womenโ€™s groups as we continue developing the systems and support that will help them build greater stability and independence.

Our areas of focus include business management and entrepreneurship, exploring ways to support access to health insurance coverage, and developing opportunities around an education fund.

We donโ€™t simply want to provide short-term support. Our goal is to work alongside women to establish sustainable systems that can strengthen their businesses, families and futures.

๐Ÿง’๐Ÿพ A Special Day at Kisumu Childrenโ€™s Remand Home

Wednesday also marked our first day of activities with the children at Kisumu Childrenโ€™s Remand Home.

Together with other partners, our Sapphire Kenya team spent time sharing, playing and creating positive moments with minors who are in conflict with or in contact with the law.

Sometimes impact begins with something as simple as showing up, listening, playing, encouraging and reminding a young person that their present circumstances do not have to determine their future. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŽ“ Celebrating Beverly

The day was also bittersweet as we said goodbye to Beverly, our intern, who has spent the past two months on attachment with Sapphire Kenya.

Beverly, thank you for your time, energy and contribution to our work. We are grateful that you chose to spend this chapter of your journey with Sapphire, and we wish you every success as you take your next steps.

Once Sapphire family, always Sapphire family. ๐Ÿ’™

We are incredibly proud of what Sapphire Kenya is achieving as we continue establishing our work, partnerships and community programmes across Kenya.

There is still so much more to build โ€” but every woman supported, every child encouraged, every young person developed and every partnership created takes us another step forward.

Reflecting on our Southwark Council safeguarding training โ€“ a moment that strengthened our commitment to protecting and supporting young people in our community.

Our team learned valuable strategies on youth safeguarding, best practices for creating safer spaces, and how to better support the young people we work with every day.

At Sapphire, protecting our young people isnโ€™t just policy โ€“ itโ€™s our mission. Training like this reminds us why this work matters so much.

Because every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, and heard. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ’Ž EMPOWERING THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS ๐Ÿ’Ž

At the Sapphire Employability & Wellbeing Academy, one of our greatest aims is simple: to empower the next generation of leaders. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’œ

This summer, we were incredibly happy to work alongside UK Youth, the Mayor of London and Orange Bow CIC to support young people through work placements and employability internships.

For us, employability is about so much more than getting a job.

It is about giving young people the opportunity to:

๐Ÿ’ผ Gain real workplace experience
๐ŸŒฑ Develop confidence and independence
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Find and use their voice
๐Ÿค Build professional relationships
๐ŸŽฏ Discover their skills, strengths and ambitions
๐Ÿš€ See themselves as the leaders of tomorrow

Every young person deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, be believed in and access spaces where they can thrive.

We are proud to play our part in creating those opportunities and grateful to our partners for investing in young people alongside us.

To every young person who joined us this summer โ€” we are proud of you. Keep learning, keep believing in yourself and keep moving forward. This is only the beginning. ๐Ÿ’Ž

Hereโ€™s to developing the next generation of leaders, changemakers and innovators. ๐ŸŒโœจ Mayor of London UK Youth

๐ŸŽฌ Cinema trip at The O2
๐Ÿ” Food included
๐Ÿ’™ Quality time with other young people

For us, youth work isnโ€™t only about workshops and programmes. Itโ€™s also about giving young people opportunities to experience London, build friendships, have fun and simply enjoy being young.

Throughout this summer, weโ€™ve been committed to creating experiences that our young people can look back on with a smile โ€” and weโ€™re not finished yet! ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿงน๐ŸŒ CLEAN STREETS, HEALTHY BEGINNINGS โ€” MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฒ

This is what community action looks like. โค๏ธ

Last Saturday, our Sapphire Cameroon Team successfully delivered our Clean Streets, Healthy Beginnings community initiative in Douala, Cameroon. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ

For a long time, a neighbourhood road had become extremely difficult to use. Dirt and waste had accumulated, plastic pollution was blocking the drainage system, and when heavy rain came, water could no longer flow properly โ€” contributing to flooding on the main road.

We didnโ€™t just want to talk about the problem. We wanted to be part of the solution.

๐Ÿค Working alongside the local youth association, our team brought members of the community together for a sensitisation session about environmental cleanliness, responsible waste disposal and the role we can all play in protecting the places we call home.

Then everyone got to work. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ๐Ÿงน

Together, the team:

โ™ป๏ธ Removed waste and plastic from the area
๐Ÿงน Cleared and cleaned the neighbourhood road
๐Ÿ’ง Reopened blocked gutters and drainage channels
๐ŸŒฑ Improved the surrounding environment
๐Ÿ‘ฅ Mobilised local young people to take ownership of their community

And the difference is already visible.

The road is passable again. The drainage is flowing. The risk of flooding has been reduced. And, most importantly, local people came together to create change with their own hands.

At Sapphire, international development isnโ€™t about arriving in a community and telling people what they need. Itโ€™s about working alongside communities, empowering local leadership and creating sustainable solutions together.

A huge THANK YOU and WELL DONE to our Sapphire Cameroon Team, the local youth association and every community member who gave their time and energy to make this happen. ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฒโค๏ธ

Small actions can transform streets.
Collective action can transform communities.
And empowered communities can transform generations. ๐ŸŒโœจ

๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿ˜ SAPPHIRE SUMMER TRIPS โ€“ LONDON ZOO! ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿฆ’

This summer, thanks to the incredible support of Sported, the Mayor of London, Southwark Council and Save the Children, we have been able to organise several FREE trips and experiences for our young people across London. ๐Ÿ’™

One of our summer highlights has been a fantastic trip to London Zoo! ๐Ÿฆ๐ŸŒฟ

For us, these trips are about so much more than a day out. They give our young people opportunities to:

โœจ Experience new places
๐Ÿ’™ Build friendships and confidence
๐ŸŒ Learn outside of the classroom
๐Ÿ˜Š Have fun and create positive memories
๐Ÿค Feel connected to their community
๐ŸŒฑ Enjoy experiences that some families may otherwise struggle to access

At The Sapphire Employability & Wellbeing Academy, we believe every young person deserves a summer filled with joy, discovery, belonging and opportunity โ€” regardless of their circumstances.

A huge thank you to Sported, the Mayor of London, Southwark Council and Save the Children for investing in our young people and helping us make experiences like this possible.

And the biggest thank you goes to our amazing young people for bringing all the energy, laughter and smiles! ๐Ÿ’™

Today, our Sapphire Malawi Team delivered a practical Briquettes Production Workshop in Mchenga Village, Balaka District, empowering local people with skills to protect the environment and create greener livelihoods.

Our community has progressed from making briquettes by hand to using a simple machine. Our next goal is to secure electric or fuel-powered machinery to increase production, train more people and create sustainable income opportunities.

Briquettes offer an alternative to traditional charcoal, helping to reduce deforestation, protect trees and strengthen community resilience. ๐ŸŒณ
