Nine years on we remember those who tragically died and all who were affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

As always on the anniversary, our thoughts are also with the emergency services on scene and in the control room that day.

Going above and beyond - quite literally ✈️

Alex, a Trainee Emergency Medical Technician, is taking on his biggest challenge yet: a wing walk at 500ft to raise vital funds for London Ambulance Charity.

Every donation will help provide lifesaving equipment, free CPR training for our communities, and ongoing wellbeing support for the paramedics and emergency call handlers responding to some of London’s most challenging emergencies.

A powerful reminder of why learning lifesaving skills matters ❤️

After surviving not one, but two brushes with death, Tony Walsh is now on a mission to help others.

Tony suffered a cardiac arrest at home in November last year, but thanks to his partner Carla and their gardener Alan, who called 999 and performed CPR, he survived.

He received help within minutes from Paramedic J’enae who performed life-saving care.

Tony said: “Meeting the paramedics was very emotional because I wouldn’t be here without them. I don’t remember anything about that day, but I do know I had the best care. They reached me quickly and saved my life.”

Since that day, Tony has spent time in hospital and most importantly he and his niece Ellie, have organised lifesaving training for 21 family members.

This weekend colleagues across the organisation were involved in the largest ever counter terrorism training exercise held in London.

Working with our emergency service partners such as police officers, firefighters, paramedics and counter-terrorism investigation teams all took part, as well as Canary Wharf Group (CWG) security staff.

Dozens of actors were involved in creating a scenario that tested the skills of emergency responders in dealing with a marauding terrorist attack.

Exercises like this ensure that if and when incidents like this occur, our emergency services are ready to respond quickly, effectively and with confidence.

The exercise was not being carried out in response to any specific threat or intelligence.

We are proud to share that My Clinical Feedback app has won the ‘Driving Change Through Data and Analytics’ category at the Health Service Journal Digital Awards.

For the first time in the UK, paramedics can now access feedback about patient outcomes after hospital handover. The app encourages ambulance clinicians to discuss cases anonymously with colleagues to share knowledge and learning and empowers crews to treat patients at home when it is safe to do so, reducing the need to visit hospital.

Chief Digital Officer Clare McMillan said: “My Clinical Feedback has been driven by a simple but powerful idea – giving clinicians the opportunity to learn what happened to the patients they cared for.

“Our crews make life-or-death decisions every day, often in high-pressure and challenging circumstances.

“They never stop caring about their patients after they leave them at hospital. This feedback helps them learn from every patient they treat and improve care for the next one.”

Have you ever wondered what our Community First Responders (CFRs) carry?

Graham is here to explain more.

Our CFRs are volunteers who play a vital role in attending to patients in their local community, equipped with life-saving medical equipment they can respond to patients in their community.

Like our other clinicians, they are also dispatched by our control rooms to respond from their home, work or elsewhere in their local area to give first aid and care prior to the arrival of LAS clinicians.

If you would like to become a Community First Responder in your area, visit the London Ambulance Service website for more information.
