Join us this June for a special celebration of Clerkenwell’s heritage 🎉

From 19–28 June, Amwell 200 marks the 200th anniversary of the historic Amwell area with a festival of walks, talks, exhibitions and community events.

Built in the early 1800s, this unique part of Clerkenwell has a rich history and a strong sense of community – often described as a “village within the city.”

👉 Whether you’re interested in local history, architecture or simply looking for something different to do, there’s something for everyone.

✅ Supported by the council, alongside local partners, this festival aims to bring residents and visitors together to celebrate one of EC1’s most distinctive neighbourhoods.

🎟️ Tickets are on sale now, with a mix of free and paid events (from £12–£30). Book early to avoid missing out.

Quaker Court in Bunhill is looking brighter and more welcoming 🌿

We’ve completed a series of landscaping improvements including:

✅ New wheelchair-accessible entrance planters
🌼 A beautiful new wildflower meadow to boost biodiversity
🌳 A larger planter for the existing olive trees
👕 A new rotary clothes dryer for residents

These upgrades have been fully funded through developer contributions, at no cost to residents.

Thank you to everyone for your patience while works were underway. We hope you enjoy the refreshed space this summer 💚

Did you know Islington’s waterways aren’t covered by smoke control rules? ⛵

Right now, all of Islington is a Smoke Control Area – except our canals.

We’re proposing to change that by including moored boats, helping to reduce harmful air pollution and protect the health of residents, boaters and visitors.

The proposal would mean:

Using authorised smokeless fuels or approved appliances

Introducing penalties for smoke emissions and unapproved fuels 🚭

Burning solid fuels can release harmful pollutants like fine particles and nitrogen dioxide — impacting air quality and health.

This is about creating cleaner, healthier neighbourhoods for everyone. 🌳

Here's a sneak peak inside the new Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration, which opens tomorrow here in Islington! 🎨 🧑‍🎨🌈

We're so excited that this landmark new cultural centre, which gives a home to illustration in the UK, is opening its doors in the borough. We've worked closely with the Centre to ensure it's as inclusive, welcoming, and connected with the local area as possible. 🏛️

It features beautiful gardens, a well-stocked gift shop, a café featuring a new mural by Quentin himself, and a library and learning centre full of resources for the use of residents and visitors - all for free!

The opening exhibitions are a fantastic testament to what illustration has to offer - Murugiah, Ever Feel Like?; Quentin Blake: Performance; and Q***r as Comics.

Plan your visit today! 🌈

🌼 A more vibrant Copenhagen Street 🌼

We’re delighted to share that we've transformed a communal outdoor space in Barnsbury, just in time for summer!

The improved space features vibrant planting beds, a woodland meadow, new seating, picnic benches with chess boards, and communal herb planters. There’s something for everyone to enjoy.

✨ More highlights:
• Mixed planting for year-round colour and texture
• A new meadow area with 25 unique plant varieties
• Communal herb planters (lavender, rosemary, fennel & sage!)
• New seating spaces to relax and connect
• A water tap to help care for the space

This project was fully funded through local development contributions, at no cost to residents. We're excited for the update shots once the garden has had time to bloom! 🌳

Our teams are working hard to get everything cleaned up after yesterday’s Arsenal parade, and what a day it was!

We’re working as quickly as we can, but with over a million people attending, it’s a major clean-up. Please bear with us while we get the borough back to its best ✨

We’ve brought in extra staff to help speed things up, with clean up costs being covered by the club.

If you spot anything that needs cleaning, you can report it on the Love Clean Streets app or My Islington ⬇️
