Great news - the number of babies admitted to ICU with breathing problems caused by the virus RSV has dropped by 50%.

This follows the first full year of the NHS offering free RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) vaccinations during pregnancy.

The vaccine protects babies from the virus from birth. 60% of mothers have taken up the offer so far, but thousands of babies will still be unprotected.

If you’re pregnant, ask your GP or midwife about booking your RSV vaccination.

Temperatures set to rise again! ☀️

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued an amber heat alert from today until 9pm on Friday 14 August.

Here are some simple tips to help keep yourself and others safe and well in the hot weather.

• Stay hydrated – drink plenty of fluids and travel with bottled water

• Apply sunscreen frequently

• Wear loose, comfortable clothing

• Limit strenuous physical activity and walk in the shade

• Look out for others – Check in on older neighbours, relatives, or anyone who may be vulnerable.

• Get help from NHS 111 - if you or someone else has symptoms of heat exhaustion that you’re struggling to treat or you need advice, use the NHS App, go online, or call 111.

Shaymaa from London gets her vaccines so she stays healthy. Check you're protected too:

❓Did you get your vaccine in year 8 in school? It gives over 90% protection from cervical cancer, plus mouth, throat and other cancers.

❓If you're 17, 18, or under 25 and starting uni soon, have you had your vaccine at your local pharmacy?

❓Did you get two doses of (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine as a child? And your other childhood immunisations?

✅Check your vaccinations in your red book or NHS App. If you think you've missed a dose, contact your GP practice to book catch up vaccinations.

❓Have you booked the new ‘four-in-one’ NHS jab to protect your little ones?

The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps and rubella.

The MMRV vaccine for younger children protects against four diseases: measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chickenpox).

Think you or your child is behind on their vaccinations?

✅ Book a catch-up appointment with your GP practice.

We’ve seen a lot of measles cases lately in North London, the UK, Europe and other countries. Make sure your family is protected.

‼️Measles can cause serious complications, including blindness, hearing loss, pneumonia and brain swelling. And there have sadly been three deaths from measles in the UK in 2026.

✅The best protection is two doses of the free MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine.

✅And for younger children, the MMRV vaccine protects them against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox).

✅Check vaccinations in your child’s red book or your NHS App.

✅Think you or your child missed an MMR dose? Book catch-up vaccinations with your GP practice as soon as you can. So you are all protected before travel and summer fun.

If you live in Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey or Islington, book the MMR appointment with your GP at: https://qrco.de/bgpq67
