We’re halfway through , and this year’s theme, , is a good reminder that supporting our mental health does not always have to start with something big.

Checking in on someone, taking a moment to pause, trying something new, or reaching out for support might seem small, but these actions can still have real impact. Together, they help build a stronger culture of care, connection and good mental health.

Throughout the week, Barnet Wellbeing Service and Young People Thrive have been sharing the NHS’s 5 ways to wellbeing across their social media channels, so make sure to keep following along to see what they’re sharing.

If you’re looking for mental health or wellbeing support, you can explore the services available through CB Plus on our website: https://cbplus.org.uk/

Interested in a creative workshop for yourself, your group or your community?

We’re now gathering interest in The Heritage Capes Project: What We Carried, a new creative heritage project from CB Plus.

As part of Light + Flight, Barnet’s borough-wide cultural programme for 2026, the project will explore memory, identity, belonging and what people carry across generations through a series of small reflective workshops.

Using simple creative methods such as drawing, collage, pattern, words, music and storytelling, the workshops will create space for reflection, conversation and creative expression. No art experience will be needed.

Whether you’d be interested in taking part yourself, or would like to find out more about this being delivered for your group, organisation or community, we’d love to hear from you.

Meet Shivanya- a 36 year-old Barnet resident who overcame loneliness

Shivanya began using Barnet Friends to overcome chronic loneliness. From the onset, her mental health was severely impacted. She would spend days in bed and often not leave her house for weeks at a time, as venturing outside caused her panic attacks.

Over the last six months, her Befriender gave her the confidence to go for short walks, which then progressed into visiting her local temple on a frequent basis to connect with her community.
Her Befriender empowered her to begin volunteering at a local charity shop, where her self-esteem improved through making a difference to her community, and allowed her to connect with new people.

If you are an adult aged 18-55 based in Barnet and experiencing loneliness, self-refer to Barnet Friends today to receive weekly telephone calls with a friendly and non-judgmental Befriender for 6-12 months!

This service is completely free, and our waiting list to be matched to a Befriender is less than two weeks.

Barnet Friends provide weekly telephone calls with a friendly and empathetic Befriender for 6-12 months.

We can also connect you to local activities and services that may help you to feel more connected to their community.

We currently have a waiting list of less than two weeks. Don’t delay, self-refer today!

Service user testimonial:

‘I mentioned to my psychologist how good Barnet Friends are. Caroline (volunteer) was great. I do not have enough good words. You changed my life.’
