From Chelsea to Brighton & Hove Albion FC women’s teams, Singaporean sports doctor Bethany Koh has worked pitchside for some of England’s top football clubs.

Bethany has balanced her work as an NHS GP with sports medicine roles in the Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship, helping players to stay healthy and perform in one of football’s most demanding environments.

Bethany shares her journey since arriving in the UK 11 years ago, what her colleagues and footballers are most curious to learn about Singapore, and how she hopes to share her experiences with the sports community back home.

In our ‘A Singaporean in the UK’ series, we highlight Singaporeans pursuing their varied careers in the UK, in an ode to the strength of the people-to-people ties between our two countries. 🇸🇬🇬🇧

In cooperation with the The Commonwealth, we are delighted to have convened a programme for participants from across 20 Commonwealth member nations on Digital Govenance and AI Adoption for Public Service from 3 to 7 August 2026!

Co-organised by the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this timely programme is part of Singapore’s continued efforts to support our fellow Commonwealth nations in leveraging technology to accelerate national development.

During the opening ceremony of the course, participants were welcomed by Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat Tanmaya Lal and DHC Nicola, who reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to support good governance and foster inclusive and sustainable development, and to strengthen cooperation and capacity-building across the Commonwealth family of nations.

We hope that all participants benefitted from the programme and the exchange of ideas on digital infrastructure and AI literacy!

Singaporeans and friends of Singapore gathered at Westminster Abbey today for an Evensong service to celebrate Singapore’s 61st National Day. For the occasion, the Singapore flag flew atop the Abbey, as we came together in contemplation and thanksgiving, offering prayers for our nation and people.

High Commissioner Ng Teck Hean read the Second Lesson at the service, taken from 1 Corinthians 9.

Special thanks to the Canon of Westminster, the Reverend Jennifer Adams-Massmann, for hosting the beautiful service, and to our guests and well-wishers at the event. May Singapore continue to flourish in peace and unity.

HC Ng Teck Hean was pleased to join Ms Gillian Tan, Assistant Managing Director for Development and International of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, at the Walbrook Club in the City of London yesterday. Despite it being one of the hottest days of the year in London, the luncheon discussion attracted a good turnout from the financial sector.

Gillian shared Singapore’s efforts to advance climate finance, including initiatives such as FAST-P, and highlighted Singapore’s role as a trusted hub for UK institutions and companies seeking opportunities in Asia. She also underscored the importance of countries and stakeholders working together to help bridge financing gaps and support the transition to a low-carbon economy.

HC spoke about ASEAN’s growth potential, and the importance of sustained UK engagement with Southeast Asia and the wider Indo-Pacific region amid increasing major power contestation and geopolitical uncertainty.

The Singapore High Commission was honoured to host President Tharman Shanmugaratnam this afternoon. We were joined by colleagues from the Singapore Government agencies represented in the UK. With support from the Singapore Global Network, a group of Singaporean students and professionals, including the management team from Singapore Airlines in London, also joined the session and shared with the President their experiences of living, studying and working in the UK.

It was also a special occasion for our Locally Recruited Staff — including three colleagues (Linda, BiBi and Nimal) whose combined service at the High Commission spans an extraordinary 128 years — who had the opportunity to meet and engage with President Tharman.

And, of course, we rounded off the afternoon with a spread of Singapore favourites, including curry puffs, pandan cake, kueh bingka and kopi-o!
