LEAP UK

LEAP UK Part of the global LEAP movement - law enforcement alongside communities for social justice solutions

Our mission at LEAP - Law Enforcement Action Partnership - is to reduce the multitude of harmful consequences resulting from the war on drugs and to lessen the incidence of death, disease, crime, and addiction with drug policy reforms. Police, prosecutors, judges and everyday people are joining together at LEAP to raise awareness about the failed, dangerous and expensive pursuit of failed drug pol

icy. Our main goals at LEAP are:

1) To educate the public, the media and policy makers to the failure of current drug policy by presenting a true picture of the history, causes and effects of drug abuse and the crimes related to drug prohibition.

2) To restore the public’s respect for law enforcement, which has been greatly diminished by its involvement in imposing drug prohibition. LEAP UK’s main strategy for accomplishing these goals is to create a constantly enlarging speakers bureau, staffed with knowledgeable and articulate former “drug-warriors” who describe the impact of current drug policies on: police/community relations; the safety of law enforcement officers and suspects; police corruption and misconduct; and the financial and human costs associated with current drug policies.

The British government’s crackdown on 'NOS' may have decreased casual use, but it has caused new health and environmental risks in the process.

‘Black children in England and Wales almost eight times more likely to be strip-searched than white peers – report’

We unfortunately haven’t seen much progress on rectifying the historical racial disparities. This latest reports confirms we are still seeing the same trends and practices.

Demographic also overrepresented when police officers use force such as handcuffs, fi****ms or Tasers, says children’s commissioner

We heavily caveat this satirical article with the fact that to***co regulation is a serous and complex issue with many factors in play. This discussion needs a great deal of context and evidence.

That said, this amusing take does cover some useful points on prohibition and the futility & counterproductive nature of such a model.

Government plans to ban the sale of ci******es will make them as hard to get hold of as cannabis, we can report today.
