A busy week at World of Coffee Bangkok!

International trade fairs are always a great opportunity to see first-hand what the coffee sector is producing — from farm to cup.

Beyond the inspiring talks and workshops, we also tasted a lot… and we mean a lot of coffee!

The ICO agenda included important meetings with the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and the ASEAN Coffee Federation (ACF), as well as valuable opportunities to exchange ideas and strengthen partnerships, including with the delegation from OCEMG in Brazil.

Thank you, Bangkok. Until next time!

The 33rd Education Seminar by the British Coffee Association has just concluded in London, bringing together professionals from across the coffee sector for three days of learning and exchange.

Hosted at the International Coffee Organization, the course explored the full journey of coffee—from production and trading to markets and logistics.

Among the speakers, ICO’s Executive Director, Vanusia Nogueira, shared insights on the role of the Organization, highlighting global market dynamics and the importance of data, dialogue, and cooperation in shaping a more sustainable and inclusive coffee sector.

From market trends to supply chain challenges, the seminar provided a valuable space to connect knowledge with practice across the value chain.

After months of decline, the coffee market is showing early signs of stabilization. In March 2026, the ICO Composite Indicator Price (I-CIP) edged up 2.3% to 273.70 US cents/lb, suggesting a pause in the recent downward trend.

Yet the underlying dynamics remain mixed: Arabica exports continue to contract (−11%), while Robusta shows modest growth (+2.0%), highlighting an ongoing shift in market preferences. With total exports reaching 11.5 million bags in February and Arabica still holding a larger share (55.6%), the market appears to be rebalancing rather than fully recovering.

Today, April 11th, at World of Coffee San Diego, the ICO’s ED Vanusia Nogueira continued the conversation on what it takes to build a more resilient and prosperous coffee sector.

During the panel on living income, discussions focused on the link between resilience and prosperity — and why ensuring sustainable livelihoods for farmers must remain at the centre of global efforts.

From data to dialogue, it is clear that collaboration across the value chain is essential to turn commitments into real impact.

Day 1 at World of Coffee San Diego marked an important step forward for global collaboration in the coffee sector.

The ICO and the Inter-African Coffee Organisation (IACO) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding, reinforcing a long-standing partnership and a shared commitment to strengthening Africa’s coffee sector.

This agreement sets a clear framework for joint action — from improving data collection and analysis, to supporting compliance with evolving global regulations such as the EUDR, advancing research on climate-resilient coffee production, and building capacity across the value chain.

By formalising this collaboration, ICO and IACO are also strengthening institutional cooperation, ensuring that African priorities are better reflected in global discussions on coffee.

🤝 Global dialogue. Shared priorities. One coffee community.

The 141st Session of the International Coffee Council was held virtually on 25–26 March 2026 and chaired by Mr Michael Wheeler of Papua New Guinea.

Bringing together both coffee-producing and consuming countries, discussions focused on global market trends, partnerships, sustainability initiatives, and the implementation of ICO activities, including progress within the Coffee Public-Private Task Force (CPPTF).

Our sincere thanks to all Member governments for their continued engagement and commitment to the global coffee sector. We look forward to meeting again soon in Geneva!

💡Innovation and sustainability 🌱

Brands committed to circular economy principles are investing in recyclable, compostable, and renewable-material packaging. These innovations reduce waste, lower the carbon footprint, and support a smarter product lifecycle.

Access the “CDR 2022-23, Beyond Coffee: Towards a Circular Coffee Economy”, on our website (link in the bio) to learn more about circular practices for coffee packaging.

Being a conscious consumer means looking beyond the beans.
