We recently lost one of our Founding members, our comrade and friend Marta Zabaleta. She was a trailblazing feminist and socialist in Chile and Argentina, detained under Pinochet's brutal dictatorship then forced to seek refuge in the UK following the military coup that brought Argentina's fascist Junta to power.

We send our love to her children Yanina and Tomás, her sister, Indiana and her former husband and lifetime friend, Alberto. Que Descanse en Paz y Poder.

Today is the 20th anniversary of Argentina's social uprisings of 19th-20th December 2001 against neoliberalism, corruption and an exhausted system of representative democracy. We remember and send our solidarity to the families and friends of the 39 victims of the massacre. We also feel inspired by the legacy of the self-organised social movements that emerged to rebuild society after the mass protests and Argentinians' attempts to create a brighter future based on direct democracy and a solidarity economy.

AFA UK SUPPORTS THE TOTAL REJECTION COUP-SUPPORTING REALITY OF WHAT HIDES BEHIND THE FORMATION OF THE "LIAISON BOARD"

-As Human Rights Groups, we express our complete repudiation to the formation of a Board by former members of the Armed Forces and Security Forces.

We agree with and adhere to the response by the Minister of Defence, Agustin Rossi, who expressed and echoed the alarm this has caused in our society.

Democracy does not allow for a parallel military grouping, or for putting into doubt the legitimacy of the institutions that run the Armed Forces. As such, we feel it is essential to express our forceful rejection of this group, which must not become naturalised by those who defend Human Rights nor by the media.

We urge those who wish to contribute to strengthening democracy to do this in your respective places, circles and lines of work. Those in any doubt, remember the people chose Memory, Truth and Justice, irreversibly and forever.
