The Morgan Crucible Industrial Ceramics factory was in Battersea Church Road. Starting as the Patent Plumbago Crucible Company, they make industrial ceramics. The company is now named Morgan Advanced Materials, has factories in other parts of the UK, and has expanded around the world.
The Battersea factory was closed in the 1970’s, and the Morgan's Walk housing development was built on the site.

Lights, camera, fright! Join us for a Halloween horror classic at The London Archives! 🎬🕸️

Step back into the world of B-movie horror with House of Wax (1953), starring the legendary Vincent Price, for a special Halloween edition of our quarterly screening series, Reel Histories – Films in the Archive.

One of the first feature films to combine 3D visuals with stereophonic sound, House of Wax terrified (and amused!) audiences on its original release. Contemporary reviewers from the Greater London Council Film Board even questioned whether its 3D effects made it more funny than frightening! 👀

Preserved by the Library of Congress in 2014 and still a fan favourite, this cult classic is the perfect way to spend a spooky October evening.

Couldn't get a ticket for the Bayeux Tapestry? 🏹

Skip the queue and see our Bayeux Tapestry replica at The London Archives on two special dates. You'll have plenty of room and plenty of time to explore the 'must see' scenes of 1066 at your leisure.

📅 Saturday 7 November and Saturday 12 December
📍 Conservation Studio, The London Archives
🎟️ Free, but advance booking is essential (6 timeslots each day)

One of the treasures of our collections and not usually on display, our 200 year old, 20.25 metre replica was the first complete colour copy of the Bayeux Tapestry made available to the public. Artist Charles Stothard hand-coloured it from the original in Bayeux, and it shows the tapestry as it looked before its 19th-century repairs.

A little escape from the city. 🌳

This clip from the 1954 film Green Islands explores Londoners’ need for open spaces — places to breathe, unwind and take a break from the bustle of the city.

For World Mental Health Day, we’re asking: what’s your favourite place in London to relax and switch off?
