🛑 Political Tourism Isn’t Representation
There’s a phrase circulating among San Antonians that captures a frustration many have felt for years: Congressman Joaquin Castro only shows up when it’s election season. 📅
People who have lived here since 2016 — and longer — say the same thing. They hear his name, see his face, and receive the polished mailers only when votes are on the line. Then the cycle ends… and the presence fades until the next campaign.
That pattern has a name.
It’s political tourism. 🧳
A congressman is not a seasonal visitor.
Representation is not a product you roll out every two years like a limited-time offer.
It is a daily presence. Consistent accountability. The willingness to stand with people when no cameras are rolling and no ballots are being counted.
When the only time a district hears from its representative is during election season, the relationship stops feeling like representation and starts feeling like a transaction. 📉
San Antonio and the western half of Bexar County deserve better than that.
Families dealing with rising costs, failing schools, border insecurity, and everyday pressures do not pause their struggles for election calendars.
Veterans 🇺🇸, working parents, small business owners, and seniors need someone who is already here — not someone who appears when the polls open and disappears when they close.
I have practiced law in Bexar County courtrooms for years.
I have stood beside people facing the hardest days of their lives when there were no campaign signs, no press releases, and no votes to collect.
I am a U.S. Army veteran, a husband, a father, and a grandfather who has raised my family right here.
I did not parachute into this race. I was already living the same realities many of our neighbors face every single day.
The contrast is simple:
One approach treats the district like a stop on a political itinerary.
The other treats it like home. 🏠
Voters in TX-20 are not asking for perfection.
They are asking for presence.
They are asking for a representative who does not vanish the moment the election is over.
Political tourism may win some election cycles.
It does not build trust.
It does not deliver results.
And it does not honor the people who live here year-round.
It is time for something different.
It is time for a congressman who is already here — and who intends to stay. 🙏
