10 year old Vidhi was born at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and spent her first week being cared for in our neonatal ICU.

Vidhi wanted to do something special for the hospital, patients and staff to mark her 10th birthday.

She launched Vid’s Treasures of Love: gift hampers for children on our inpatient paediatric wards, and a snack station for everyone else on the ward including siblings, parents, nurses, play staff and other staff members.

In the past few years, she has also raised over £6,000 for Spread a Smile charity who also visit our wards, through skipping challenges and cupcake sales which have funded new library books for children’s ICU wards across hospitals. That work was recognised by both the Westminster and Richmond Community Hero Awards.

Thank you Vidhi - we are so grateful!

3 months. 120 scans. Faster answers. ⏱️

In our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, we’ve been trialling AI-assisted technology to help clinicians assess patients with suspected blood clots sooner.

During the three-month pilot, most patients received a clinical decision within 30 minutes of their scan, helping many avoid longer waits and repeat hospital visits.

The technology combines a handheld ultrasound device with AI guidance, enabling trained clinicians to carry out an ultrasound during the patient’s first appointment and potentially reducing the need to return to hospital for a sonographer-led scan.

This innovation was funded by our charity, CW+, and delivered through CW Innovation, the Trust and charity’s joint innovation programme.

Chelsea and Westminster Hospital has successfully implemented innovative AI technology to help accelerate the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

During a three-month pilot, most patients received a clinical outcome at their first appointment, with DVT ruled out in 97 of 120 examinations. The typical time from scan to clinical decision was less than 30 minutes, and 80% of patients were safely discharged after their first scan.

This pilot demonstrates how AI can support clinicians in delivering faster, high-quality care while improving the patient experience.

This initiative was funded by our official charity CW+ charity, and delivered through CW Innovation, the Trust's joint innovation programme with CW+.

Yesterday, the award-winning team at John Hunter Clinic (JHC) welcomed Cllr Lucy Knight, Lead Member for Adult Social Care and Public Health for Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, to learn more about the vital sexual health services they provide across the borough and beyond.

Cllr Lucy Knight was welcomed by Laura, Hospital Managing Director, Gurmit, Clinical Lead, Consultant physician in HIV and Sexual Health, and James, SSC Clinic Manager, along with other team members who shared more about the team’s essential outreach initiatives and specialist clinics.

The visit follows the launch of a new outreach collaboration between JHC and Golborne Canalised Health Centre, with the JHC team now running a weekly sexual health clinic in the community primary care setting. This initiative brings specialist sexual health services closer to local patients.

Developed with the support of Dr Yasmin Razak, who was instrumental in establishing the partnership and joined the visit, the initiative brings specialist sexual health services closer to local patients while providing the same standard of care and range of contraceptive options available at the main clinic.

Over the past 12 months, CW Innovation Fellows from across the Trust have developed innovative projects to improve patient care, experience and outcomes. Led by CW Innovation, a joint initiative between CW+ charity and the Trust, and delivered in partnership with Digital Health London, the Fellowship supports staff to develop and implement ideas that make a real difference for patients and colleagues.

As this year's programme comes to a close, we'd like to congratulate all our Fellows on their hard work, creativity and commitment.
