The Library contains over 300,000 books and subscribes to 6,000 current journals, many of which are available electronically. In addition it holds a number of Special Collections, the Audiovisual and School Practice Collections. The Library's main subject strengths are in the creative and performing arts, humanities, social sciences and education.

We're on the lookout for a Special Collections & Archives Manager to join our team at Goldsmiths Library. Are you ready to curate history and engage with a vibrant community of learners and researchers? If so, this role might be your perfect fit!
The role leads and directs the Special Collections and Archives team, who maintain stewardship of a growing number of special collections and archives which reflect Goldsmith's research activities; including, the Goldsmiths Textile Collection and Constance Howard Gallery, the Daphne Oram Collection and the Women's Art Library.

We're looking for someone with:
🔍 A passion for history and archival work
📚 Strong organizational and project management skills
🤝 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
💡 Innovative ideas to engage with the wider community

🌱 Dive into the world of animal relations! Join our Research Café: Thinking with Animals Veganuary Special, featuring captivating talks by experts Sonia Turcotte and Dr. Mariam Motamedi Fraser. 🐾📚

🔍 'The long shadow of animal agriculture: life on farmed animal sanctuaries.' Sonia Turcotte, an early career researcher, will unravel the complexities of animal-human relationships on sanctuaries, offering insights into the tensions and interwoven structures of care and control.

🐶 'My dog loves to come to work!' Or does he? Dr. Mariam Motamedi Fraser, a Reader in Sociology at Goldsmiths, challenges the conventional ideas about the dog-human bond and its implications for dog welfare, drawing from her experiences working with Monk.

Happening in the library on Wednesday 22nd November, the Research Café will present two talks providing insight into the research of Dr Padraig Kirwan and Professor Deirdre Osborne.

👉 "Sharing Lands: The Choctaw Famine Gift to the Irish" by Dr. Padraig Kirwan:
Uncover the fascinating connection between the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and the Irish people during the Great Irish Famine. Dr. Kirwan's ongoing project delves into questions of reciprocity, relationality, and Indigeneity on a global scale. Join us to ponder the deep connections that bind sovereign nations and peoples.

👉 "Getting Under Our Skin: From Black to BLAK" by Professor Deirdre Osborne:
Explore new perspectives on dispossession, migration, and racialization in the context of Australia's First Nations writers. Professor Osborne will challenge traditional 'colonial' and 'decolonial' hierarchies, introducing the radical restorations of kinship and familial recovery by Indigenous Australian writers Leah Purcell and Tony Birch in "The White Girl."
