All That Breathes Film Screening and Q&A (4 June, Wanstead Library)
Join us for a film screening & chat about all things life & death in this laid-back film club session, part of the Afterlives Festival.
Grab a seat for a specially curated film screening with a lively discussion about the things we don't always talk about: death, dying and what it all means.
Expect a brilliant film, fascinating conversation and fresh perspectives from people working across healthcare, funeral services, public services and the arts. The Dead Good Film Club, hosted by independent producer and funeral celebrant Andy Jones, has been sparking exactly these kinds of honest, entertaining and eye-opening conversations for years and we're bringing it to your library.
On the night we’ll be showing All That Breathes - Shaunak Sen’s award-winning documentary set in New Delhi, where two brothers dedicate their lives to rescuing injured black kites falling from the city’s polluted skies. Poetic, urgent and visually stunning, this is a deeply moving film about care, survival, and the fragile connections between humans, animals and the environment we share, as well as the delicate threads that bind life, death and grief together.
More than a documentary, All That Breathes is an immersive cinematic experience that explores kinship across species, the realities of climate change, and the quiet resilience of everyday people doing extraordinary work. Through the brothers’ story, the film invites audiences to reflect on connection in all its forms -between people, creatures, cities and ecosystems -while also meditating on life, loss, death and the ways grief can deepen our sense of care for the world around us.
