"I believe that through actively engaging in my own community, together we can strengthen the voice of ordinary people, and address their concerns in order to build a fairer, more open and democratic society." - We Can Win activist Tobias sets out his hopes for the campaign in Doncaster

On the 23rd of June, 2016, my home constituency of Doncaster North voted 69% in favour of leaving the EU - a margin of more than two to one. Since the r...

Between Hammond's hollow budget and fraught Brexit talks, a future that puts us before the big banks and corporate elites is looking less and less likely.

The solutions we need won't be handed to us from Westminster. Share if you're ready to take control of building a fairer future for ourselves.

The City of London Corporation has been “subsidising its own members’ club and supporting a trio of private schools“ with a fun that’s supposed to belong to Londoners.

We could think of some better ways to use the “City’s Cash” to the benefit of everybody. What do you think it should be spent on?

Labour calls for reform as figures show £4m spent on independent schools and hundreds of thousands on luxury dining and alcohol

Earlier this year We Can Win skilled up residents in the poorest estate in Britain’s richest square mile. Now they’re organising themselves to take action, and make the City work for everyday people.

A small put hopeful movement is arrising in the shadows of the City of London's famous skyline as locals strive to push further into the inner circle of vested interest

SHARE if you agree that tax avoiders have overstepped the mark. The Paradise Papers scandal shows that while millions of us have been struggling to make ends meet, Britain’s richest have been refusing to pay their fair share. If we want a future that works for all of us, not just the mega-rich, we need to build it for ourselves.

A lot has happened in the last two weeks.

Together, we’ve knocked on more than 270 doors and have had more than 60 conversations on the doorstep - about the power of the Corporation, and the big banks and businesses that are based in the Square Mile.

Our work has been featured in the BBC, the Financial Times, and the animation we created has been viewed more than 11,000 times!

But best of all, turnout in Cripplegate - the ward where we’ve been campaigning - was up 10%.

This movement has been fuelled by inspiring people fired up and ready to hit the ground running to change politics.

On the doorstep we’ve had dozens of fantastic conversations with people, over 50% of whom simply had no idea that businesses are allowed to vote in their local elections.

Were you there? Did you go door knocking, change minds hearts and sit on sofas?

Tag yourselves and share!

Party politics aside, today was a win for people power and democracy in the City of London Corporation.

Turnout is up across the City - but most dramatically in Cripplegate, where's we've been out knocking on doors, talking and flyering for two weeks.

Today our lead organiser Dan is quoted in the FT. If you can't read behind the paywall, this is what the article says:

"Dan Firth, director of the We Can Win campaign that encourages locals to vote said: 'People are cynical about politics at the moment and we need to reinvigorate democracy from the grassroots.'

Early figures indicate those efforts have paid off. Average turnout across the wards on Thursday was 39 per cent compared with 24 per cent at the 2013 election."

We hope everyone is safe and well after the terrible attacks in Westminster yesterday. Our thoughts are with all those who lost their lives, were injured or affected by the tragic events.

But today, Londoners are staying strong and going about their lives. People of all races and religions are still heading to work, using the tube, grabbing coffees and making plans for Thursday night drinks or time with their families.

And we’re determined to keep going, because today there's still an election taking place in the City of London Corporation.

This important election comes just days after revelations of the Global Laundromat scheme (1), which saw British banks funnelling billions of pounds of dirty money out of Russia.

Like the woman we spoke to who said of the Corporation: “If they could offload the residents, they would... they're really not interested.”

It’s more important than ever that residents of the Square Mile stand together today, so if you live in the City please make sure you go out to the polls - which close in just 3 hours!

And if you believe, like we do, in the power of people to change politics, please spread the word by sharing this message.

It’ll take all of us to make an impact. But recent events have shown us the importance of standing together, refusing to be divided and celebrating the magnificent diversity of our culture.
